TỔNG HỢP BÀI MẪU CHỦ ĐỀ TECHNOLOGY by NGOCBACH

1 Scientists predict in the near future cars will be driven by computers , not people Do you think it is a positive or negative development ? Why ?

Essay:

It is true that advances in technology

have led scientists to suggest that it will

not be long before computers will be

driving cars I believe that the

consequences will be wholly positive

Scientists have good reasons to believe

that computer-driven cars will soon

become the norm The first

computer-driven cars have been built and the

technological breakthrough achieved

Already, satellite navigation systems

guide many drivers to their

destinations, using sophisticated

software that can incorporate

information about traffic congestion

and delays Thus, computers speed up

journey times and ease traffic flow

It is therefore reasonable to anticipate

that computers will soon assume all the

functions of the human motorist

The principal benefit of driverless

vehicles will be a reduction in the

number of deaths and injuries on the

roads The majority of accidents are

the result of human error or

irresponsibility, including such reckless

Advances in technology: the improvement or developments in

technology

A technological breakthrough: an important new discovery in technology

To speed up journey times:: to reduce the amount of time spent travelling

To ease traffic flow:: to enable traffic

to move more easily

Driverless vehicles: cars and other

vehicles which have the technology to drive themselves, without a person in

control

Driving while intoxicated:: the crime

of driving a vehicle after drinking too

much alcohol

Trang 2

behaviour as speeding and driving

while intoxicated If the control of

vehicles were computerized, the roads

would be safer for everyone, including

cyclists and pedestrians There would

also be no need for local or national

authorities to apply road safety

measures, such as the installation of

speed cameras or traffic calming

A second major advantage will be to

enable more people to use cars At

present, in many countries such as the

UK, in order to adhere to the law,

learners have to undergo extensive

training and sit a rigourous test before

they become qualified drivers For the

elderly and thosewith some physical

disability or mental health problems,

such as anxiety, a car driven by a

extremelybeneficial application of

leading-edge technology

In conclusion, I would argue that

technological achievements will result

in fully-computerized cars and this

should be welcomed universally as a

positive development

294 words

To computerize something: to provide a computer or computers to do

the work

Local or national authorities::

government organizations acting in a

local area or across a country

The installation of speed cameras::

The act of putting cameras on certain roads to check that cars are not going

faster than the speed limit

Traffic calming:: building raised areas

on roads as a means of making cars go more slowly

To adhere to: to behave according to a particular law or rule

Mental health problems:: problems

related to an illness of a person’s mind

Leading-edge technology: the most

advanced technology available

2 (09/05/2015): Developments in technology have brought various

environmental problems Some believe that people need to live simpler lives to

Trang 3

solve environmental problems Others, however, believe technology is the way

to solve these problems Discuss both views and give your opinion

ANSWER

It is true that certain advances in

technology have had negative impacts

on the environment While there are

strong arguments that some

environmental problems should be

tackled by adopting simpler lifestyles, I

believe that the solutions lie in

technologies that have been and are

being developed

On the one hand, enjoying life with

less sophisticated technology means

that people inflict less damage on the

ecosystems on which all living things

depend [1] Firstly, people consume

energy through overuse of devices such

as air-conditioning, water heaters and

the private car If they decrease their

energy consumption, thiswill reduce

the emission of greenhouse gases, but

this will certainly involve leading

simpler lives [2] Secondly, organic

farmers do not pollute the water or the

soil which results from the application

of chemical fertilisers and

weedkillers They encourage a

diversity of plants and wildlife on their

farms

sophisticated technology: technology

that is clever and complicated in the way that it functions

inflict damage on: make something,

such as the environment, suffer something harmful

ecosystems: all the plants and animals

living in various areas, considered in relation to their environment

the emission of greenhouse gases: the

release into the air of gases which cause the temperature of the earth to rise

chemical fertilisers: chemical substances added to the soil to make plants grow

weedkillers: chemical substances that

are used to destroy wild plants, especially among farm crops

Trang 4

On the other hand, I agree with those

who argue that technological

achievements play a pivotal role in

environmental protection [1] One

reason is that the use of renewable

energy sources is already starting to

grow This raises the prospect of

decreasing dependence on fossil fuels,

cleaner air and the reversal of the trend

of global warming Countries such as

Japan are leading the way, for example,

in developing more eco-friendly cars,

buses and lorries [2] Another reason

is that cleaner technologies, such as

wastetreatment, are being introduced

into many industries, and technology is

enabling plastics and other products to

be recycled

In conclusion, although living simpler

lives can certainly help in tackling

environmental problems, it seems to

me that advances in technology are

already providing many solutions and

this trend will gather pace in the future

278 words

play a pivotal role: a role which is

very important, because other things depend on it

renewable energy sources: sources of

energy which are replaced naturally, such as power from the sun or the wind

dependence on fossil fuels: fuels such

as coal or oil, that were formed over million of years from the remains of animals or plants, on which some countries rely for much of their energy production

global warming: the increase in the

temperature of the earth, caused by the increase of greenhouse gases

eco-friendly: not harmful to the

environment

waste treatment: the treatment of

materials that are no longer needed and are thrown away

3 (15/10/2017): There have been many inventions in the human history, such

as the wheel Some people think the most important thing is the internet To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Trang 5

Essay:

There have been many truly

revolutionary advances in technology

which have profoundly changed the

course of human history While

perhaps the most significant of these is

traditionally considered to be the

wheel, I agree with those who believe

that the internet is the most important

invention of all time

The greatest impact of the internet is

the instant transmission of knowledge

that it has made possible As a result,

the old ways of studying and working

have been made obsolete Whereas

the wheel was a technological

breakthrough in transforming

transport, the internet has allowed

people to pass on information and

ideas across the world In education,

computer literacy enables young

people to access the internet, and the

virtual classroom is becoming a

reality, with the college intranet and

the use of the internet to deliver

lectures The internet has also

revolutionised communication in

business, with the growth of

e-commerce and online shopping

Enterprises increasingly communicate

with staff and clients through video

conferencing

advances in technology: the improvement or development in

technology the transmission of knowledge: the

process of passing knowledge from one person to another

to make something obsolete: not in

use any more, having been replaced by something newer and better or more fashionable

a technological breakthrough: an important new discovery in technology

to pass on: to give someone something

that someone else has given you

computer literacy: the ability to use a

computer well

to access the internet : to have the

opportunity to use the internet

a virtual classroom: an online

classroom in which participants can communicate and interact with other students, view videos and actively engage with the study materials

the college intranet : a network of

computers within a college that can only be accessed by the staff and students to set and mark work, enter into contact etc

to deliver a lecture : to give a lecture

Trang 6

A second significant breakthrough for

which the internet is responsible is in

transforming the way that people

communicate in their social lives One

obvious example, of course, is the

phenomenal growth in popularity of

social networking sites There are

currently about 2 billion active users of

Facebook, and such sites are still in

their infancy Thanks to the internet,

more and more people are able to share

what their friends and family are doing,

and they can keep abreast of the news

about what is happening in the world

from many sources Governments find

it difficult to control and censor the

content of what is posted on the

internet

In conclusion, as nothing is more

fundamental than sharing knowledge, I

would argue that the internet is the

greatest of all inventions to date

295 words

e-commerce: buying and selling products or services using the internet

online shopping: shopping while

connected to the internet

video conferencing : to see and

discuss with people in different locations using the Internet

breakthrough (noun): an important

development that may lead to an agreement of achievement

phenomenal (adjective): extremely

successful or special, especially in a surprising way

social networking sites: a website on

which you communicate with people who share your interests

to be in its infancy : to be in the early

development of something

to keep abreast of something: to have

the most recent information about something

to censor (verb): to remove something

from a book, film or news report considered to be offensive or a political threat
