II Presentation ( 35 Min.)

1 Pre – reading

- Ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss what will

happen to: people / environment / economy /

society / science in the future

- Help Ss answer the two questions in textbook

by giving the guiding words or phrases

- Introduce some new words or phrases:

* Group work Give their ideas and add the numbers

- If they have from 40 to 60, they are pessimists

- If they have more than 65, they are optimists

* Take note the meaning of the two words: + optimist (n) one who looks on the bright side

of things -> optimistic (a) + pessimist (n) one who looks on the dark side

of things -> pessimistic (a)

* Listen carefully

* Pair work, take note their answers:

Eg:

People more intelligent / active,

poorer, richer, Environment cleaner / more polluted

Economy develop / Society equitable / modern / Science Labour-saving devices /

develop

* Give the answer

1 It will be better because:

- We will have better condition in learning, working, traveling,

- We can live in a fresher environment, have more chances to do everything we like

It won’t be better because:

- The earth will be hotter

- Environment will be polluted

- People will be lazier/ passive

- Travel: travel by space-shuttle very fast, at 15,000 kms per hour, cars could run on electricity or methane gas and fitted with computers

Suggested ideas : Advantages:

- save labor, lighten our work

- do difficulties/ hard jobs so that men have more than time to enjoy life or do more creative work

Disadvantages:

- replace human beings in many fields so many people will lose their jobs or go jobless

- people become more independent on robots;

we can’t work properly when the power is off or when robots stop working

II Presentation ( 35 Min.)

Task 1: Saying about what will have

happened by the end of the 21st century

Asks s to look at the book and work with

their partner to make an example, using the

structure in the question

Whether the predictions in Task 1 are

likely or unlikely to happen.

The teacher gives the example:

1.F ( Many scientits predict that in the 21st century people will be living in the incredible age of 30 ) 2.F ( because they look after theiselves, eat more healthily , cut down on things like butter, alcohal, and cigarettes.)

3.F ( To be 80 : a century ago, average life expectancy was 45, if people look after themselves, they can add 35 to that figure.)

4 T ( Nowadays, about 50% of cancers are curable, and within 30 years this will increase to 80%.)

5 T ( Eternal life is just fiction.but with the advance of science, it’s not impossible.)

no pollution, no noise, there will be more parks with green trees They won’t worry about diseases There will be many more treatments to cure sickness Even, cancers will be cured successfully

.But my main desire is to see people less selfish, more loving, caring and feeling
