Ireland’s most successful rock

exports, with more than 16 million

record sales to date, it seems

certain that Snow Patrol will attract a huge

crowd on the festival’s opening night

While their success is now

unquestionable, the group’s early years

were not a straight run to success After a

brief stint under the moniker Polarbear,

under which they released their first,

largely unknown, EP, the group underwent

a line-up change and rebranded as Snow

Patrol, before releasing two largely

unknown albums with a small indie

label While commercially unsuccessful,

their efforts were enough to earn them

a contract from Polydor, and it was their

third album, Final Straw, which saw the

band rise to fame in the UK, achieving

five times platinum status with sales in

excess of three million Since then, the

group has released a further four studio
