WHAT IS WATER POLLUTION?

Trang 2

What is the concept of water pollution?

Types of water pollution

Where does water pollution come from?

There are several classes of water pollutants

Trang 3

What is the concept of water pollution?

Water pollution is any chemical,

microorganisms or biological

change in the quality of water

environent_that has a harmful

Nutrients on any living thing that

drinks or uses or lives in it When humans to use polluted water it

often becoming serious effects on

their health Water pollution can also make water unsuited for the desired use.

Trang 4

Types of water pollution

Surface water pollution

Microbiological pollution

Suspended Matter

Groundwater

Pollution

Trang 5

TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION

Surface water pollution: pollution is the most

visible form of pollution and we can see it floating

on our waters in lakes, streams, and oceans

Groundwater Pollution: is more and more relevant because it affects our drinking water and the aquifers below the soil.

Trang 6

TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION

Microbiological pollution is the natural form of

water pollution that is caused by

microorganisms in uncured water.

Suspended Matter Pollution are

usually found in wastewater and fertilizers.

Trang 7

Where does water pollution come from?

 Water pollution is usually caused by human activities Different human sources

add to the pollution of water There are two sorts of sources, point and nonpoint sources.

Trang 11

There are several classes of water pollutants

The first are disease-causing agents Second category of water pollutants is oxygen-demanding wastes

 These are bacteria, viruses, protozoa and

parasitic worms that enter sewage systems

and untreated waste

 When large populations of decomposing

bacteria are converting these wastes it can deplete oxygen levels in the water This causes other organisms in the water, such as fish, to die

Trang 12

There are several classes of water pollutants

A third class of water pollutants is water- soluble

inorganic pollutants

A very dangerous category is suspended sediment

 Large quantities of these compounds will

make water unfit to drink and will cause the

death of aquatic life

 because it causes depletion in the water's

light absorption and the particles spread dangerous compounds such as pesticides through the water

Trang 13

1 What are the major water pollutants? Explain them

 There are many water pollutants such as:

 bacteria, viuses, parasitic(vi khuẩn, virut, ký sinh trùng)

 oxygen- demanding wastes (chất thải có thể bị phân hủy bởi các vi khuẩn yêu cầu oxy)

 acids, salts and toxic metals(axit, muối và các kim loại độc)

 water- soluble nitrates and photphates(nitrat và photphat)

 oil, plastic and pesticides(dầu, nhựa dẻo và thuốc trừ sâu)

 supended sediment(trầm tích bị giữ lại)

 radioactive compounds(hợp chất phóng xạ)

Trang 14

2 Which water pollutants can cause cancer, birdt defects and genetic damage ?

It is radioactive compounds

3.Where does water pollution come from?

It come from the source of human activity

(nguyên nhân gây ra ô nhiễm nguồn nước đến từ các

hoạt động của con người)

4 How many sources water pollution are there? What are they?

There are two sorts of sources, point and nonpoint sources

5 Where does point sources dischange pollutants?

It does pipelines or sewers into the surface water

Trang 15

B.Read the text again and decide whether the following statements are True( T) or False(F)

1 T There is a class of water poollutants

2 F The bacteria, viruses, protozoa and parasitic worms are not disease – causing agents

3 T When large populations of decomposing bacteria are converting there wastesit can deplete oxygen level in the water

4 F Water can be not polluted by a number or organic compounds such as oil, plastics and pesticides, which are harmful to humans and all plants and animals in the water

5. T Water- soluble radioactive compounds can cause cancer, birth defects and genetic damage

6. F Water pollution is usually caused by human activities

7. T Point sources discharge pollutants at specific locatons through pipelines or sewers into the surface water

8. T Nonpoint sources are sources that cannot be traced to a traced to a sing site of discharge
