- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to understand how to take telephone messages They’ll use the language to write the telephone messages

C Materials: cards, poster, sheets of paper, OHP, an answering machine, transparencies, Work arrangements: Individuals, pairs, groups, T-WC

Anticipated problems: Students have never taken telephone messages before.

Ask students to retell Bell’s autobiography

and his invention of the telephone

When/ Where were you born?

Who did you work with at ?

etc

Eliciting:

Modeling, choral & individual repetition

Gap-fill

Ask students to read the message and fill in

the gaps in the passage that follows with the

information

Students work individually in 3 minutes,

then they share and compare

Teacher gets feedback by reading the

completed passage aloud

Comprehension questions:

Who made the call?

When/ On what day was the telephone?

What time of the day was it?

What was the customer’s name?

Whom did he wanted to speak to?

What was the message about?

Who took the message?

 While-writing

Read the passage and write the telephone

message:

Read the passage silently

Work in groups of four to write the

telephone message on the transparencies

Set the scene: Tom is making a call He

wants to speak to Nancy but she is out and

her sister Lisa answers the phone.

Ask students to listen to the dialogue twice

and complete the telephone message

Students work individually, then pair and

compare

Teacher gets feedback

Listen to similar dialogues (using the

answering machine if possible)
