UNIT 14: THE WORLD CUP Period 87: LISTENING

I. Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Listen and talk about the World Cup, especially about Pelé – a very legendary football player

- Learn more vocabulary, both meaning and pronunciation

- Develop listening skills: + listen for main idea and specific information

+ take notes while listening + summarize main ideas

-Feel more excited about listening about Pelé – a very legendary football player

-Greeting

-Checks the students’ attendance

-Check the old lesson: Unit 14.Speaking: Asks some

students to stand up and do a talk about The World Cup

-Asks students to look at some pictures showed on the screen

- Calls some students to give the name of each football

player and which team they played for

-The monitor reports the class’s attendance

- Stand up and do a talk about The World Cup -Work in individuals, look at the pictures

- Give the name of each

II.Before you listen(10 minutes)

- Provides some vocabulary

- Gives out the words and their meanings in English to

illustrate them

- Asks students to give the Vietnamese equivalents

* Vocabulary:

+ Goal-scorer (n): (play a video about goal-scorer)

+ Ambassador (n): a person who represents for some

particular organizations of their countries in other countries

-Answer who they like best

- Stand up and try to guess the Vietnamese equivalent of some new words

+ Promote (v): to do actively to support something

- Gives feedbacks

- Asks students to write the vocabulary in the notebook

-Asks students to listen and repeat new words

III.While you listen(20 minutes)

-Shows students a short video clip of Pelé

-Asks them to give the name of the person they have

watched

-Lead in: “ Now in order to know who is he and some

information about this very famous person, let’s turn to

while you listen-Task 1”

Task 1.You will hear some information about Pelé, a famous

-Lead in: “ After listening about Pelé’s life, now it’s time to

talk about it, we move to After you listen”

-Give the instruction of the task

- Gives students some examples of milestones in one’s life

Ex:

+ The time one was born: He was born in Brazil in 1940

+His starting as a football player: In 1956, Pele joined a

Brazilian football club

+The spotlight in his career

+His achievements

+His retirement

-Calls some students to stand up and practice talking

-Corrects the mistake if needed

-Gives feedback

- Asks students to prepare the new lesson: Unit 14 – The
