UNIT 11: NATIONAL PARKS LESSON: WRITING

I Objectives: After the lesson, the students will be able to:

- Write letters of acceptance or refusal.

- Be aware of protecting national parks in specific and the environment in general

Preparation: Textbook, lesson plan, pictures, extra-boards, …

II Procedures:

1 Warm up:

Competition game - Network

T prepare a handout with a network of the word “letter”

Divide the class into eight groups and gives each group a

hand-out

Ask Ss to complete the network with different types of letter

they know The quickest group will be the winner

- The winner will be the group with the quickest and correct

answers

T introduces the new lesson:

Last time, we have studied how to write a letter of invitation

Today, we will learn how to write letter of acceptance or

refusal

Work in group to find out the answers

2 Before you write:

Pick the phrases given below and put it in the suitable

questions

Give Ss handouts

Divide the classs into groups of 4

Task 1 Below are some common ways of accepting or

refusing an invitation Read them, and fill each blank of the

notes with a suitable expression.

Have Ss do Task 1 on P.177

Have Ss to work with their partners and fill in the gaps

Ask some ss to go to the board and write down their answers

Correct the answer

3 While you write

Task 2 Rearrange the following sentences to make a letter

accepting an invitation to spend a weekend in the country.

Ask Ss to work in pairs to do Task 2 on P.118

T goes around the class to give help

T asks some ss to go to the board and show their answers

T goes over the answers with the class

Task 3 One of your friends has invited you to go for a picnic

to Cuc Phuong National Park next weekend Write a reply

letter accepting or declining his/ her invitation.

THE FEATURES OF A LETTER OF

ACCEPTANCE OR REFUSAL:

Have Ss to read the letter in task 2 again

Analysis the letter to help Ss how to write an acceptance or

refusal

(1) Heading:

- Address

- Date

- Greeting

Suggested answer:

1 -> (B), 2 -> (A), 3 -> (B), 4 -> (A), 5 -> (A), 6 -> (B)

Work in pairs Sugested answer:

reason, and an alternative date or activity is often

suggested

Ask Ss to do task 3 individually

Go around and give help

Call 2 Ss to go to the board and write down the answer

Ask Ss to read the letters on the black board

Ask them to give comments

Correct the writings on the board and give feedback

4 After you write

Ask Ss to answer this question:

“We are going on a picnic to Cat Tien National Park this

weekend Would you like to join us?”

5 Homework:

- Rewrite the letter into your notebooks

- Prepare for the next lesson

Raise their hands to answer the question, using some ways of accepting or refusing an ivitation
