Five practice squares are provided for each kanji First, trace over the character’s form in

the first square, following the stroke order shown in the textbook, and then practice writing the
character in the other four squares Be sure to give your characters the proper sizing and
balance, using the model character as a guide Continue practicing to write the kanji in a note- book until you have it firmly planted in your memory
@ Vocabulary reading & example sentences
The table in this section lists the shaded vocabulary of the corresponding textbook lesson
First, write each word’s reading in the Reading column, and then read the example sentence
provided for it Some sentences contain kanji and words not yet studied, so their readings are
given in hiragana subtext for your convenience
If you have trouble reading any of the target words, go over it again in the textbook in order
to solidly learn its reading
Kanji fill-in-the-blank task
In this task, you need to write the vocabulary covered by section II in the blanks of each sentence First, read through the sentence to grasp its meaning, and then write the appropriate kanji or the reading of kanji in the underlined blank The kanji vocabulary studied in that lesson are shown in bold type The sentences also provide practice in the kanji
