This is a lesson plan of Unit 1 English 8 for some teachers to see as reference source. Students also can read this plan to prepare for their lesson as well as possible. I hope that this lesson plan can help all members in 123doc.org have a better vision about English and find the best way to learn this language.

LESSON PLAN UNIT 1: MY FRIENDS Getting stated – Listen and read

* Aims: By the end of Lesson Ss will be able to:

- Develop the reading skill

- Broaden the range of vocabulary related to the topic

- Review simple present and simple past tenses

* Assumed knowledge: Ss have already known some vocabulary items/ structures related to content of given passage.

* Anticipated problem:

- It’s possible to lack time, so teacher had better shorten the last activity

- Ss may not know the techniques to do the tasks, so T should offer them some tips before let them do the tasks

* Teaching aids: books, cassette, chalk,…

* Time required: 45 minutes

TEACHING PROCEDURES

I) Warm -up - Greeting

- Getting started

 Divide class into 4 groups

 Ask Ss to work in group and describe about four pictures in the book (page 10)

 Give some cues to help Ss describe these pictures:

1 How many people are there in the picture?

- Greeting

- Listen to the T attentively

- Work in group

- T creates a friendly atmosphere for Ss

- T arouses Ss’s interest in the lesson

- Ss can find out some words or phrases related to the topic themselves

2 What are they doing?

3 Where are they now?

4 What do they do these activities for?

5 Guess when do they do these activities?

 After 3 minutes, ask some representatives of these group to stand up and describe about these pictures

- Lead Ss to the lesson

II) Pre

-reading

Activity 1:

Pre-teach vocabulary and grammar point

Teach vocabulary using different techniques

1 Seem /si:m/ (v): có v nh ẻ như ư (translating)

2 Receive /ri'si:v/ (v): nh n (using ận (using antonym: give)

3 Next-door neighbor / nekst dˌnekst ˈdɔː ˈdɔː ɔːr/

- Ask students to repeat the words chorally

- Get students to copy the words in their books

- Read new words after the T

- Write down new words

- Ss know the meaning and structures of some key words

- After that, elicit the sentence: “She wasn’t old enough to be in my class”

- Ask Ss to analyze the form of the sentence to find out the form of the new structure:

S + be + (not) + enough + to-infinitive

( đủ / không đủ …… để làm một việc gì )

- Call on some Ss to make sentences with the structure

Activity 2:

Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember

- Rub out the new words one at a time

- Each time rub out an English word, point to the Vietnamese translation and ask "What's this in English?"

- When all English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get students to say out the English words

and their meanings in the notebooks

- Listen carefully

- Make sentences with the new structure

- Answer the questions

- Help Ss to remember the new words

III) While

-reading -Activity 3: Listen and readTurn on the tape two times and ask Ss to

listen and read the dialogue in the book (page 10)

- Then ask Ss to work in pair, practice speaking the dialogue

- After 2 minutes, call on some pairs to stand up and read the dialogue out loud

- Listen carefully

- Work in pair - Ss can know how to read the dialogue with

intonation

- Give the feedback and help Ss to pronoun

Activity 4: Answer the questions

- Ask Ss to work individually and answer

four questions in exercise 2 (page 11)

- Move around and help Ss to do the task

- After 3 minutes, call on four Ss to go to

the board and write down the answers

- Check the answer with the whole class

and correct if it is wrong

* Key:

a) She lives in Hue

b) No, she does not

c) The sentence is “She was not old enough to

be in my class.“

d) At Christmas

Activity 5: Give the correct form of verb

- Ask Ss to work in pair and use the present

simple and simple paste tense to complete

the paragraph, using some verbs: live,

send, be, have

letter Nien Hoa’s neighbor when Hoa…

board and write down all the verbs in

- Work individually to answer the questions

- Work in pair to do the exercise

- Ss can improve reading skill

- Ss can review the simple present and simple past tenses

- Ask some Ss to stand up and read out loud the completed paragraph

IV) Post -

reading

Activity 6: Talk about your best friend

- Ask Ss to work in group of 4 or 5 students, each S will talk about his/her best friend to the other members in group

- Give some cues to help Ss tell about the best friend:

- What’s his/her name?

- How old is he/she?

- What does he/she look like?

- Where does he/she live?

- Who does he/she live with?

- When and how did you know your best friend?

- What do you usually do with your best friend in free time?

- After 5 minutes, call on some Ss to talk about their best friend in front of the class

- Give feedback and give mark if they have good presentation

- Work in group and do the task

-Ss can improve speaking skill and can be more confident when they speak in front

of the class

V) Homework - Ask Ss to learn by heart the new words

and grammar point

- Ask Ss to do exercise in workbook and prepare for the next lesson

- Listen carefully and copy to the notebook

-Ss recall what they learnt and they are ready for the next lesson
