* Aims: By the end of Lesson Ss will be able to:

- Listen to a listening text about the Great Wall

- Listen for specific information

- Listen for general ideas

* Anticipated problem:

- It’s possible to lack time, so teacher had better shorten the last activity

- Ss may not complete all exercise or do not know how to write the answer, so teacher should teach them some new words related to the topic

* Teaching aids: books, handout, radio, and picture.

* Time required: 45 minutes

Teaching procedures

I) Warm – up

(5 mins)

- Greeting

- Play the game: guessing

• Divide class into 2 groups

• Give Ss four clues respectively to guess the name of one place

1. It is very well-known in the world

2. You can see this from the moon

3. It is over 6000 kilometer long

4. It is one of the seven wonders in the world and the symbol of China

• The team can get the right name

of place sooner will be the winner

- Lead Ss to the lesson

- Greeting

- Listen to the T attentively

- Guess the name of place

- T creates a friendly atmosphere for Ss

- Ss can get some information about Great Wall

II) Pre-

listening

Activity 1:

1. Pre teach vocabulary

- Teach vocabulary using different techniques

- magnificence /mæɡˈnɪf.ɪ.sənt/ (n): vẻ lộng lẫy (translate)

- significance /sɪɡˈnɪf.ɪ.kəns/ (n): ý nghĩa (translate)

- world heritage /wɜːld/ /ˈher.ɪ.tɪdʒ/ :

di sản thế giới

- Listen to the T attentively - Ss know the

meaning and structures of some key words

- dynasty /ˈdɪn.ə.sti/ (n): triều đại (give example)

- roadway /ˈrəʊd.weɪ/ (n): lòng đường (use picture)

- Ask students to repeat the words chorally

- Get students to copy the words in their books

Activity 2:

Checking vocabulary:

- Ask Ss to remember all the meaning

of these words

- Rub out all the meaning of these words on the board

- Call some Ss to stand up and say the meaning of these words

- Read new words after the T

- Write down new words and their meanings in the notebooks

- Remember the meaning of these words

- T check Ss’

understanding about the new words

Activity 3: Task 1:

- Ask Ss to read all the sentences in task 1 page 183 and decide what kind

of information and what part of speech of the word/ expression to fill

in each blank

- Check with the whole class

- Play the tape twice time for Ss to do the task

- Ask for Ss’ answers and write them

-Listen to the T

- Listen to the radio and do the task

-Help Ss improve listening skill (listening for detail)

to check their answers

Activity 4: task 2: work in group

- Divide class into 8 groups

- Ask Ss to listen again the passage and write the answer of task 2 into the white board and stick in the black board

- Ask prepare for the next lesson:

- Write down their homework in the notebook

- Ss recall what they learnt and they are ready for the next lesson
