A. INTRODUCTION

1. QUANG NINH PROVINCE

Quang Ninh is a large province along the northeastern coast of Vietnam The province is home to Ha Long Bay, a World Heritage Site

Nearly 80% of the province is mountainous with abundant land, forest water and mineral resources Nearly 90% of coal output in the country is extracted in this province

The province covers an area of 6,099 square kilometres and as of 2012 it had a population of 1,177,200 people

Quang Ninh area has had several names:

- Ngo Dynasty called Luc Chau

- Ly Dynasty called Dong Ha

- Tran Dynasty called Hai Dong

- Later Le Dynasty called An Bang

- Nguyen Dynasty called Quang Yen

They are further subdivided into 8 commune-level towns (or townlets), 111

communes, and 67 wards

Economy

Although economy of the region is agriculture based, other sectors of industries and tourism are also getting priority attention

Being in the northern economic triangle (Hanoi-Haiphong-Quangninh), the

province has abundant resources and has immense potential to develop the

economy in every sector Industrial development is taking place at a rapid pace Mineral extraction industries are being developed

The two economic development zones under development are the Mong Cai

Border Gate Economic Zone and the Van Don Economic Zone

Tourism is also a sector of economic development, which has been given

priority.Quang Ninh has targeted to become a regional high-quality tourism center and an economic growth hub in the North with synchoronized socio-economic and technical infrastructure and improved living conditions

Transportation system

The road network in the province consists of the National Highways No 10, 18, and 4B Highway No 10 links to Hanoi, Haiphong and Northern provinces

National Highway 4B connects with Lang Son and Cao Bang

The International Airport is at Noi Bai and a highway links it to the Mong Cai International Border Gate over a road distance of 288 km Ha Long city is 150 km from the airport Another airport is being built closer to Ha Long, 40 km away at Van Don

Quang Ninh has 5 seaports: Cai Lan, Van Gia, Cua Ong Hon Net, Mui Chua and

96 inland ports

In addition, the province has 65 km national railway line Kep - Ha Long, and special-purpose rail network coal industry.

2.HA LONG CITY

Halong City is the provincial capital city, the center of culture, economics, politics

of Quang Ninh province, northern coastal zone Halong City was established December 27, 1993, on the basis of the entire area and population of the town of Hong Gai( Hon Gai)

Being a coastal city, it has unique potentials of tourism and seaport due to its land lies along the shore of Ha Long Bay of 50 km, and is 160 km to the north-east from Ha Noi, 60 km to the west from Hai Phong, 180 km to the east from Mong Cai international border gate, and bounded by the Tonkin Gulf to the south Ha Long has strategic location of economic development, security of the region and the country

The name Ha Long is derived from the Sino-Vietnamese, meaning "descending dragon"

Ha Long city covers an area of 271.95 square kilometres

Administrative divisions

Ha Long city is divided into 20 wards

As planned, the city comprises five economic areas:

-Area 1: Trading, services including wards Yet Kieu, Tran Hung Dao, Hong Gai,

Bach Dang, Hong Hai, Hong Ha, Cao Xanh and Cao Thang

-Area 2: Industry, forestry including wards Ha Trung, Ha Tu, Ha Khanh, Ha

Lam and Ha Phong

-Area 3: Industry, seaports including north-west of Bai Chay, North of Viet

Hung, Gieng Day and Ha Khau

-Area 4: Tourism, trading including south of Bai Chay, Hung Thang and Tuan

Chau

-Area 5: Agriculture, fishery including Viet Hung and Dai Yen.

Transportation system

Ha Long city is in the middle of Highway 18 linking Bac Ninh to Mong Cai

From Ha Long city along Highway 10, we can come Uong Bi and through Hai Phong, Nam Dinh to trans-Vietnam highway 1A in Ninh Binh

In the future, we will build the highway Noi Bai - Ha Long, Hai Phong - Ha Long and Mong Cai - Ha Long.

Ha Long cityalso has the park for the helicopter and seaplane and the railway linking Yen Vien - Pha Lai - Ha Long under national railway Kep - Bai Chay

B. SERVEYING OF TOURISM SUPPLY CONDITION FOR THE ROUTE HANOI- HA LONG- HANOI

I.SERVEYING OF TOURISM RESOURCES IN HA LONG CITY

1 Natural tourism resources

*Landscape values:

-The overall beauty of the landscape: imposing, dreamlike, diversified,

-Rich beauty and originality

-The sudden change of the island the water the sky

-The beauty of the cave as the castle

-The beauty of the ecosystem

-Ang ecosystems: seagrass, seeweed, shrimp, crab, cuttle, …

*Geologic and geomorphology values:

-From 340-240 millions years ago, forming two limestone formations are Cat Ba and Quang Hanh

-67 millons years ago: natural effect of creating islands

-2 millons – 11 thousand years ago: time to make up caves in Ha Long Bay

-11 thousand years ago: Ha Long Bay formed

-4000-3000 years ago: the sea receded and held steady today

=>Giant geological museum

Limestone structure: Is a kind of sedimentary rock, rarely in pure form but often

mixed impurities such as clay, silt and sand So their color from white to colored ash, light blue, yellow and dark pink, black

Some famous caves and beaches:

*Sung Sot cave( Surprise cave):

Located in the central area of Ha Long Bay’s heritage zone on Bo Hon Island

It is one of the largest and the most beautiful cave in Ha Long Bay

It covers an area of 10,200 m2

The cave is reached by ascending 100 stone step and it’s 25 meters above the sea The cave is composed of three chambers:

- the first chamber is similar to a theater hall with many stalactites

- the second chamber is the largest chamber with thousands of stalactites and stalagmites in many shape

- the third chamber suddenly widens into a large beautiful vault

*Dau Go cave( large wooden stakes):

Dau Go is also on Dau Go island close to Thien Cung Grotto Its name apparently derives from the belife that it was the production workshop and store for the ironwood stakes to be embedded in the bed of Bach Dang river as a defence

against war against Mongolia invaders in the 13th century

Dau Go’ three chambers together cover an area of about 500m2 Its mouth

resembles a large starfish and is just over 20m above sea level

- the first vaulted chamber is over 20m high with many stalactites hanging down

- the second chamber is narrower and lower and only partially lit

- the third chamber is wider with a well with clean water at one end

*Ti Top beach:

It takes the shape of a crescent encompassing the island

The beach boasts pristine white sand, clear and blue water and small waves, which make it ideal for recreational activities like swimming and other sea sports.

Swimming at Ti Top Beach is really enjoyable After swimming, you can enjoy fresh sea food specialities in an ideal environment of immense sky and sunshine.During the full moon, you are able to wander around until late at night

*Bai Chay beach:

Bai Chay is a large, beautiful, artificial beach, closed to the coast of Ha Long Bay The 100-meter-wide-sandy beach spans over 500 m Early in the morning or in late afternoon, thousands of people liven up the atmosphere here

The asphalt road winds its way through the white sandy beach and luxuriant

casuarinas Having received much investment, Bai Chay tourist site has rapidly transformed into one of the most captivating beaches in Halong City

Road route: Ha Noi- highway 1- Bac Ninh- highway 18- Pha Lai- Chi Linh- Dong Trieu- Uong Bi- Ha long.

It takes us 2h30- 3h30 to get to Ha Long

This is the shortest route and quanlity good way

On this way, there are many restaurant, coffee shop to rest

*Route 2: Ha Noi- Hai Duong- Ha Long

It is 170km

Road route: Ha Noi- highway 5A- Hai Duong city- Nam Sach town- highway 183- Sao Do- Dong Trieu- Uong Bi- Ha Long

It takes us 3h- 4h to get to Ha Long

This is the route that tourist often choose to come to Ha Long

Road is wide, smooth and flat

We can rest at Dau Xanh cakes restaurants and buy some special food of Hai Duong city such as Dau Xanh cake, Gai cake and fruits

Along this way, you can visit some places as stone carving and wood workshops

at Sao Do- Hai Duong, colliery and thermal power satation at Uong Bi, Con Son- Kiep Bac, Yen Tu

*Route 3: Ha Noi- Hai Duong- Hai Phong- Ha Long

Road route: Ha Noi – highway Hanoi-Hai Phong – Quan Toan(Hai Phong) – highway 10 – Uong Bi – highway 18A – Ha Long

It takes us 3h- 3h30 to get to Ha Long
