I Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Improve listening skills for specific information
- Have some information about Asian games
- Listen to “the Asian games report” to get some information about some athletes and the sports events
II Lexical items: vocabulary about sports in Asian Games
III Teaching aids: textbook, chalk and board, pictures, CD, CD player
PROCEDURE
I Warm up (5mins)
Game: Names of sports
Work arrangement: Group
- T divides the class into 2 groups
- T asks representatives of two groups to go to the board and gives them some cards with names of sports on it
- Ss have to use suitable actions to express the names of sports
- The other Ss in each group guess the words and write them on the board
Trang 2- Group writes more words correctly and quickly will be the winner
- T and the whole class use pictures to check words written
* Lead – in:
- T: Can you guess what we are going to listen to?
=> Ss: Sport
- T: Good, today we will listen to a sport event
II Pre-listening (10 mins)
1 Pre- teaching vocabulary:
- freestyle (n): kiểu bơi tự do (Eliciting technique: picture)
- gymnast (n): vận động viên thể dục (Eliciting technique: picture)
- land (v): hạ, rơi (Eliciting technique: miming)
- compete (v): cạnh tranh, đua tranh (Eliciting technique: example & explanation)
* Steps for teaching vocabulary
- T elicits the word
- T models the word 2 times
- T gets Ss to repeat chorally 2 times
- T calls 2 Ss to repeat individually, then corrects
- T writes the word on the board
- T checks stress/intonation
- Ss copy it
2 Checking vocabulary: Rub out& remember
- T rubs out the new words one at a time
- Each time T rubs out a word in English, T points to the Vietnamese and asks
“What’s this in English?”
- When all the English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get Ss to call out the English words
- T calls some Ss go to the board to rewrite all the rubbed out words

1 Activity 1: Guess information
- T asks Ss to read task 1 (page 142) and give some guiding questions:
+ What are you going to do?
+ Which program is the information on?
+ Can you tell me the sports and athletes that may be mentioned in the tape?
2 Activity 2: Choose the best answer A,B,C or D for the following sentences (Task
1, page 142)
- T plays the cassette
- Ss listen, then exchange their answers with their partners
- T gives feedback
- T asks Ss to listen again to check and find the information (key words) to support their answers
3 Activity3: Answer the following questions
- T asks to read all questions in task 2 (page 142)
- Ss listen to the tape again, then answer these questions
- T divides Ss into groups of 4, exchange ideas, write their answer on posters
- T collects 3 posters and sticks them on the board
- T and Ss check the answers on posters
- T collects 3 posters and sticks them on the board
- T and Ss check the answers
- Ss listen to the tape again

Discussion: Talk about a famous athlete you know
- T divides class into groups of 4 Ss, discuss and talk about a famous athlete they know
- T writes some cues on the board:

-year
-name of sport
-appearance
-nationality
-female/male
-age
- T calls representatives of each group talk about the athlete they know in front of the class
- The other groups have to guess the athlete’s name
- T gives feedback
V Homework (2 mins)
- Learn by heart the new words
- Write it up: Write a paragraph about a sport event that you have seen/ known
- Prepare for the next lesson
