I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- Learn some adjectives to describe a neighbourhood

- Pronounce the sounds /i:/ and /i/ correctly

- narrow >< wide (adj)

- fantastic >< terrible (adj)

- convenient >< inconvenient

- noisy >< quiet / peaceful (adj)

- polluted (adj)

- historic >< modern (adj)

LESSON 3 : A CLOSER LOOK 2

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- Learn some comparative adjectives, and ask for the equivalent in Vietnamese

II Language contents

1 Vocabulary:

tall => taller big => bigger noisy => noisier cheap => cheaper beautifull => more beautifull interesting => more interesting convenient => more convenient expensive => more expensive

2 Structures:

- Present simple tense

- Comparative adjectives

Ex: My bag is heavier than yours

- Choose two Ss of very different height - Two Ss stand and other Ss look at the

pictures of two boys of different heights in

the St’s Book instead

- Ask the class: Who is taller?

- Indicate tall and taller with your hands

and arms

- May give other example:

Eg: two rulers or desks: long – longer.

- Ask Ss to say what taller and longer are

in Vietnamese

- Feedback & give answer keys:

II Presentation

- Introduce the subject of the lesson:

Comparative adjective, and asks for the

equivalent in Vietnamese

- Express how to make comparisons

- Focus Ss’ attention on comparative forms

by pointing to the rulers and desks and

saying: This rulers/ desk is long, but that

ruler/ desk is longer

- Explain that comparative adjs are

constructed in several different ways in E

and that some of those ways are presented

in the box

- Explain the simplest ways to identify the

number of syllables in an E word and give

further examples or practice if neccessary
