BUCKLING OF ORTHOTROPIC STRUCTURES

The problems related to the stability of orthotropic plates and shells are not treated

in this book However, we give in the following a few figures that allow one to estimate the order of magnitude of loads that can lead to buckling due to compression or due to shear in orthotropic panels and tubes

Buckling of Orthotropic Tubes

Bending leads to ovalisation of the cross section The moment of inertia which affects the rigidity in bending decreases (this is the unstable process)

The phenomenon is known as the “Brazier effect.”
