Lesson 1: LISTEN AND READ

A: Objectives:

I Knowledge: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:

- Get to know some special celebrations around the world

- How to tell one of celebrations they have experienced

T asks Ss to look at the pictures in the

textbook and and tell each celebration

T may ask Ss how they realize the

celebrations

I Pre reading.

1 Pre teach:

- to occur: xảy ra

- to live apart: sống xa nhà

- Passover: Lễ quá hải

- freedom: tự do

- slavery: cảnh nô lệ

- ancient: cổ xưa

- parade: diễu hành

2 Pre questions:

? How many celebrations are there in the text?

What are they?

II While reading

T plays the tape

T requires Ss to read in silently

1 Gap fill:

Work in 2 groups

Ss find the celebation and explain how they know it

1 Easter 2 Wedding

3 Birthday 4 Christmas

5 Mid-Fall Autmn

6 Lunar New Year

Ss repeat after T and their friends

Ss give examples and take note

There are three celebrations; Tet, Passover, and Easter

Ss listen to the tape

Ss read individually and read loud

in the class

Look at the table and read them

III Post reading

Retelling

T asks Ss to tell in the class which the

celebration they have experienced

T gives some ocasions that Ss will choose

T invites some Ss to tell in the class and then

T may comment or corrects

Ss may answer:

They are Tet, Passover and Easter

-Tet: in late January or early February

- Passover:: in late March or early April

- Easter: at around the same time as Passover

In Tet: clean and decorate homes, eat sticky rice cakes and join together

In Passover: celebrate freedom from slaveryand enjoin special meal

In Easter: receive gilts and watch parades

Tet: sticky rice cakes Passover: Seder Easter: chocolate and sugar eggs

Tet in Vietnam, China Passover in Israel

Easter aroud the world

Ss wor in group the choose the one they like

Ss choose one of the following celebrations they are going to tell

in the class:

Tet (Lunar New Year, Wedding, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine, ect)

IV Consolidation :

- Listen to the tape and answer more questions
