UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS

Lesson 1: Reading

By the end of the lesson, Ss will:

• Develop dictionary skills

• Decide on True or False statements

• Develop passage comprehension

II Materials:

Textbook, pictures

III Anticipated problems:

Ss have difficulties in guessing meaning of words, lack vocabulary

- Game: Matching

- T hangs 3 pictures (of celebrations of Vietnam) and 3 phrases on the board:

Teachers’ day, Mid-autumn festival, Happy women’sday

- T gives Ss 2 minutes to answer

- T has 3 Ss match phrases with these 3 pictures

on the board

- T checks and gives correct answers (Appendix)

- T asks Ss to guess what the topic today is about

- T introduces the topic

- Look at the board

- Give answers

- Checks their answers

- Guess the topic

- T has Ss to open their books and look at the picture on page 90

- T asks Ss to answer some questions:

1 What’s the picture about?

2 What are they doing?

3 What did you do last Tet?

4 What do you enjoy doing at Tet?

Suggested answers:

+ Tet holiday + Lucky money + Peach blossom + Decorating the house

+ Making bánh chưng

- Open their books

- Give answers

- T has Ss answer these questions above

- T asks Ss to read the passage on page 91
