Look, circle and colour.

• Say the sound /r/ and trace a large letter r in the air

Pupils copy and repeat

• Say Open your Activity Books at page 8, please Look,

circle and colour Show Activity 1 on the whiteboard,

point to the first picture and ask What do you see? Say it

with me! Do the same for the other three pictures Pupils

say the words rainbow, ball, two, robot.

• Point to the letter r in the middle of the pictures and

elicit the sound /r/ Pupils look, find and circle the

pictures of the words that start with the sound /r/ Check

their answers on the whiteboard Then ask pupils to take

a red pencil and to colour the pictures that they have

circled red

• Pupils point to the two pictures they have coloured in

and say, e.g a red rainbow.

AB8 ACTIVITY 2

Write and draw.

• Use a red pen to colour a red splodge on the board Draw

three short lines underneath and write e d on the last two:

Draw your table Say.

• Point to a pupil’s table and at the classroom items there

Say, e.g Is this your book? What colour is it? The pupil

answers Ask How many pens (are there)? Count them

aloud: One, two, three, etc Ask about pencils and

erasers

• Say Look at Activity 2, please Point to the example

picture of the table on the whiteboard and say Draw your

table Draw the pens, pencils, erasers and books Colour

the picture.

• Pupils look at the items on their tables and draw a

picture Monitor pupils as they draw and ask them

questions about their pictures

• Pupils show their pictures in pairs They take turns to

point and say, e.g My pen is green.

MATERIALS

• Flashcards: 27–32 (school)

AB11 ACTIVITY 1

Draw three pictures.

• Display the flashcards on the board Write a number

next to each one Say, e.g Number 1 is an eraser What’s

number 4? Elicit from a pupil Number 4 is a (pen) Repeat

several times

• Say Open your Activity Books at page 11, please Show

Activity 1 on the whiteboard and say Look at the pictures

at the top Tell pupils to choose one object to draw in

each box They can choose the objects they want, but tell

them it’s a secret Pupils copy the objects into the boxes

Tell your friend Draw your friend’s pictures.

• Demonstrate the activity Hide your Activity Book from

pupils talk about your first picture, e.g Number 1 is a

chair Invite a pupil to the whiteboard to draw the first

example and say What is it? Don’t elicit answers yet.

• Say Look and read Ask a volunteer to read the sentence

in the example aloud (This is a pencil) Point to the

picture again and look thoughtful Say Is it a pencil?

Pupils respond No (it isn’t) Point to the cross in the box

and say It isn’t a pencil Put a cross.

• Say Now look and read Put a tick or a cross If necessary,

draw a tick and a cross on the board

• Pupils work individually to complete the activity by

• Pupils work individually to colour the pictures Monitor and check that they are using a different colour for each toy from the four options

Now ask and answer Colour your friend’s toys.

• Demonstrate the second part of the activity with a pupil

pencil or crayon according to the pupil’s response (e.g

if he/she responds It’s brown, hold up a brown crayon)

• Pupils work in pairs to complete the speaking and colouring activity Then they compare pictures Monitor and check that they are asking full questions and answering with sentences, and not showing each other their pictures until the activity is complete

Find and circle the words.

• Show Activity 2 on the whiteboard and point to each

animal and elicit the name Extra support Put the wild

animal flashcards on the board and write the animal word

under each one

• Point to the bear and say bear, /b/ /b/ bear Point to the

top row in the puzzle and say Find the /b/ Show that the

word has four letters Point to the example circle around

the word bear

• Mime drawing lines in different directions (across/down/

diagonally) so pupils understand how to search for the

words Then continue in the same way with each animal

picture, supporting the pupils as they find and circle the

words They can refer to the word labels in their Pupil’s

Read, look and write ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

• Revise the adjectives happy, sad, long, short, clean, dirty

using mime, board drawings or items in the classroom
