This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Engineering
Sector Board and is the English language version of EN 560 Gas welding
equipment — Hose connections for equipment for welding, cutting and allied processes It partially supersedes BS 1389:1986 which will be withdrawn on
publication of BS EN 1256
EN 560 was produced as a result of international discussion in which the UK took
an active part
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.

1 Scope
This standard lays down the dimensions and
specifies the characteristics of the constituent parts
of hose connections for welding, cutting and allied
processes, for example for pressure regulators
according to EN 585 and blowpipes
2 Normative references
This European Standard incorporates by dated or
undated reference, provisions from other
publications These normative references are cited
at the appropriate places in the text and the
publications are listed hereafter For dated
references, subsequent amendments to or revisions
of any of these publications apply to this European
Standard only when incorporated in it by
amendment or revision For undated references the
latest edition of the publication referred to applies
EN 585, Gas welding equipment — Pressure
regulators for gas cylinders used in welding, cutting
and allied processes up to 200 bar.
EN 29539, Materials for equipment used in gas
welding, cutting and allied processes.
ISO 228-1:1982, Pipe threads where pressure-tight
joints are not made on the threads —
Part 1: Designation, dimensions and tolerances.
3 General
The gas pipe threads shall be in accordance with the
requirements of ISO 228-1 All other dimensions are
given in millimetres
The joint is made with a bull nose and cone seal
(see Figure 1)
4 Material
The material shall conform to EN 29539
5 Dimensions
5.1 General
The dimensions of threaded union, union nut and
hose sleeve shall be as specified in 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4.
5.2 Threaded union

Tolerances for external thread according to class A
The dimensions not given are left to the discretion of
the manufacturer
Type of thread to be used:
— right-hand for oxygen and non-combustible
gases;
— left-hand for combustible gases
5.3 Union nut

— left-hand for combustible gases
5.4 Hose sleeve
All values are given in millimetres except those which are thread specified in ISO 228-1
The dimensions not given and the profile of the part
to be engaged in the hose are left to the discretion of the manufacturer
ensure maximum flow capacity To ensure correct seating between the hose sleeve and the threaded
As the profile of the hose sleeve is left to the manufacturer’s discretion, the wall between the bore and the smallest diameter of the profile shall have adequate strength
However, the profile and the dimensions should be chosen so as to permit the burst pressure of the hose
to be reached when the hose is fixed by a suitable clamp

Special national condition: National characteristic
or practice that cannot be changed even over a long
period, e.g climatic conditions, electrical earthing
conditions If it affects harmonization, it forms part
of the European Standard or Harmonized
