4 Principle
This document spe if ies two methods, st er ometric method an imme sion method, for det ermining
the volumetric shrin ag e b measuring v lume of a t es pie e befor an aft er dying t o a cons ant mas
The v lume is calculat ed as a prod ct of the lnear dimensions of the t es pie e in st er ometric method
an measur d as the v lume of wat er displac d, or the mas of the wat er displac d in imme sion
method The v lumetric shrinkag e is calculat ed as the chang e of the volume ex r s ed as a pe c ntag e
of the original v lume The initial measur ment shal be taken on t es pie es in gr en or fuly saturat ed
con ition The final measur ment shal be taken on t es pie es in a solut ely dry (oven-dry) con ition
