4 Principle

This document spe if ies two methods, st er ometric method an imme sion method, for det ermining

the volumetric shrin ag e b measuring v lume of a t es pie e befor an aft er dying t o a cons ant mas

The v lume is calculat ed as a prod ct of the lnear dimensions of the t es pie e in st er ometric method

an measur d as the v lume of wat er displac d, or the mas of the wat er displac d in imme sion

method The v lumetric shrinkag e is calculat ed as the chang e of the volume ex r s ed as a pe c ntag e

of the original v lume The initial measur ment shal be taken on t es pie es in gr en or fuly saturat ed

con ition The final measur ment shal be taken on t es pie es in a solut ely dry (oven-dry) con ition

5.1.1 Me sur ing instr uments, ca a le of dete mining dimensions of the tes pie e to the near es

0,0 mm, fited with p ralel flat en s, each of diamete 5 mm to 8 mm, an a plying a clamping for ce

which wil not cause any deformation g r eate than the pr ecision of the ins rument

5.1.2 A forced conve tion o en that can be maintained at a temperatur e of (10 ± 2) °C thr oughout he

5.2.4 Mar king of me surement points

Measur ment p int shal be marked at themid le of each surfac of t es pie e The c ntr p int shal

tang ential dir ctions, r spe tively Dimensions of the t es pie es shal bemeasur d betwe n themarks

at each s ag e of mois ur con itions

5.3 Proc edure

5.3.1 Determinatio of the dimensio s of test piec es in g reen or full y saturated c ondition

The mois ur cont ent of t es pie es shal be conside a ly highe than the f ibr saturation p int (FSP)
