5.1 Vertical tensie-str eng th-testing ap aratus

5.1.1 Tensie-streng th-testing apparatus

5.1.2 Tensie-testing apparatus clamps

5.2.1 Tensie-streng th-testing apparatus

5.2.2 Tensie-testing apparatus clamps

without causing any damag e, an shal ha e means for adjus ing the clamping for e The ta le betwe n

During the t es , the clamping l nes shal be p ralel t o each othe within an angle of 1° The clamping

l nes shal be pe pen icular t o the dir ction of the a pled t ensie for e an t o the long es dimension of

5.2.3 Soaking devic e

A so king devic can be inse t ed betwe n the clamps of the t ensie-s r ngth-t es ing a p ratus (5.2.2),

as shown in Figur 3

wat er t o a cons ant level

5.3 C t ing devic e

The cut ing devic shal be ca a le of r peat edly cut ing t es pie es (5 ,0 ± 0,5) mm wide an at leas

1 0 mm in length, with un amag ed, s raight, smo th an p ralel edg es

Condition the samples ac ording to ISO 1 7 an k eep them in the s an ard atmosphe e throughout

the tes

7 Preparation

7.1.1 If the tes s ar e being made to ev luate a lo the sample shal be sele ted in ac or danc with

ISO 1 6

If the t es s ar being made on anothe ty e of sample, make sur that the spe imens taken ar

r pr sentative of the sample Each t es pie e shal be fr e from pe forations an fault not normaly

inhe ent t o the tis ue

7.1.2 F r conve ted tis ue pr od cts, testing shal be done on the pr od ct as r ec ived, r egar dles of

7.1.3 Tis ue that has not be n conve ted into a finished pr od ct shal be tes ed as a single ply, u les

7.2 Ac c elerated ag eing (curing )

7.2.1 T e wet s r eng th of tis ue p pe is freq ently en anc d b addition of a wet streng th ag ent A n

ac elerated ag eing with hea also caled curing , is fr eq ently used to develo the ma imum wet treng th

that a tis ue p pe or tis ue pr oduct wil achieve afe a pe iod of natural ag eing at ambient con itions,

which ma y v ry fr om a few da ysto several we ks b sed on the wet s r eng th ag ent used

NOTE T e decision of whether or not to use ac elerated a eing wil b determined by the user of this

document, b sed u on the information a out he tis ue paper or tis ue prod ct sample b ing t ested.A ccelerat ed

a eing is not a req irement of this document, but is an al owed option

7.2.2 Pr od ction tes pie es which ha ve not lef the man facturing environment ar e g eneraly rapid

ag ed To rapid ag e a tis ue p pe or tis ue pr od ct , it is r ecommended to heat it in an o en at (8 ± 2) °C

relative h midity for at leas 1 h prior to testing

7.3.1 Ver tical testing apparatus

7.3.2 Hor izo tal testing apparatus

Cut t es pie es of (5 ,0 ± 0,5) mm width an , pr fe a ly, a pro imat ely 1 0 mm length, a oiding

pe forations an fault

If the spe imens ar so smal that t es pie es of 1 0 mm length can ot be o tained, cut t es pie es as

long as the spe imens alow an , w hen t es ing these t es pie es, use the ma imum t es sp n that can be

used with se ur clamping

7.4 Number of test piec es

Take at leas 1 spe imens from each sample of tis ue prod ct From each spe imen, cut one t es pie e

in the machine dir ction an one t es pie e in the c os dir ction, making a t otal of at leas 2 t es

pie esfrom each sample of tis ue p pe or tis ue prod ct

8 Proc edure

8.1 Cal bration and adjustment of the testing apparatus

Ensur that the t ensie-s r ngth-t es ing a p ratus is calbrat ed an ve if ied in ac ordanc with the

r q ir ment of ISO 7 00-1

Che k that the clamps ar al gned t o me t the r q ir ment in 5.2.2 Position the clamps such that

the t es span is (1 0 ± 1) mm A djus the rat e of elong tion ( he rat e of separation of the clamps) t o

(5 ± 2) mm/min or the ada t ed dimension, if r q ir d, as s at ed in 7.3.1 or in 7.3.2, r spe tively A djus
