Spring is here!
May is upon us and the end of the school year is near! It
is a fun, exciting and busy time for classrooms, teachers,
students, and families It can also be stressful as
calendars fill with activities, tasks, appointments, and
events The best way to help our children succeed in
school is to plan each week with them Homework, end of
the year projects, sporting events, family functions, and
evening school programs crowd the calendar making
planning and organization key to in every child’s routine.
With the spring comes sun and now is the right time to
remind our families and our students of the Arleta dress
code We acknowledge that fashion and what is deemed
appropriate dress is to some extent a matter of opinion
As a learning environment, we do require that dress is
appropriate to the setting We ask the students of all ages
following the same dress code guidelines:
• Under garment should not be seen above the waist
band or from off the sleeve Sagging is not allowed,
whether your shirt covers the belt line or not.
• Tops must have sleeves covering the shoulders and
closing beneath the arm pit.
• Tops with spaghetti straps or tank tops are
not to be worn alone but rather with a
second shirt or sweater.
• No Midriffs and bare back clothing.
• The bottom hem of shorts and skirts should not be
shorter than the tip of the index finger when arms are
to one’s side.
• All items of clothing must be free from alcohol or drug
references or derogating messages.
If a student comes to school dressed inappropriately, he/
she will be given something appropriate to wear over
their clothing or will be asked to call home to have
something brought in to school.
Please, never hesitate to contact me with any question,
comment, or concern.

An Edible
Garden for
Arleta!
Planting for the Edible Garden
was a success! We had many
helping hands at both garden
work days on the first two
Saturdays in April: families &
staff from Arleta School, Mt
Scott/Arleta Neighborhood
association, Public Harvest, and
Lifehouse Church Take a few
minutes next time you’re at
school and see the fruits of
everyone's labors — blueberries,
raspberries, currents, honey berries, huckleberries and more
The garden planting was made possible with a grant from
Southeast Uplift's Neighborhood Small Grants Program
This is not the end
— plans are in place to start work towards grants to plant the rest of that grass strip Bring
us your ideas!

Where should we focus our energy in the upcoming school year? We need to hear from you
The Arleta Community Meeting
is a joint venture with the Arleta Site Council and Boosters We plan to cover two main topics of discussion
First, we have an exciting grant coming our way: GEAR up This
is a grant to directly bring money and resources to our older grades, but never fear — what is learned for the older
grades will benefit the younger children too Come learn about this grant
Second, it is necessary for our school community to determine where we want to focus our energy We all have different ideas of what our school community can achieve that goes beyond core academics Should we, as families at Arleta, focus on fundraising,
community outreach, cultural awareness and celebration, social activities, sports there are so many options Which fit our school community the best? Please join us for this important meeting Child care will be provided
This meeting is sponsored by Arleta Site Council and Boosters
