PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It’s what we do that is more important than what we say

It’s what we do together that is more important than what we do alone

Our stance, our statement regarding diversity is simple really We welcome you

We welcome all people and we welcome all people’s ideas and ways of looking at things We welcome differences because we value what makes us unique Our sameness is equally important as we recognize the human condition we share together We think access and opportunity for people is a priority, not an afterthought We believe in being inclusive, welcoming, and supportive of anyone who comes to us and we invite them to dream and build with us at St Cloud Technical & Community College

INTRODUCTION

St Cloud Technical and Community College (SCTCC) is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive,

equitable, and supportive environment for its students, faculty, and staff SCTCC acknowledges and embraces diversity as one of its core values SCTCC is dedicated in implementing sustainable programs

to cultivate and foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding

OVERVIEW OF THE DIVERSITY PLAN

As part of Charting the Future, the goal of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities in terms of diversity is to reduce and eliminate the student success gap for students of color SCTCC will achieve this goal by addressing the following areas:

1 Work with partners to reduce and eliminate the student success gap

2 Increase diversity of students and strategies for retention

3 Increase diversity of faculty and staff and strategies for retention

4 Build effective partnerships with communities of color

5 Ensure a supportive and welcoming environment

The SCTCC Diversity plan is the result of grassroots efforts of the SCTCC Diversity Committee members The plan has been reviewed at the following meetings:

o January 2016: Diversity Committee meeting

o February 2016: Diversity Committee meeting

o March 2016: Student Senate meeting

o April 2016: St Cloud community meeting

o April 2016: All College meeting

The percentage of students of color at SCTCC has increased steadily in the past four years, and is now at 20%

St Cloud Technical and Community College is above the system average for Student Success of Students

of Color, defined as the ratio of student persistence (fall to fall) for students of color to white students

SCTCC is below the system average for Completion Rate of Students of Color, defined as percent of entering cohort of full-time undergraduate regular and transfer students that has completed

Completion is measured as graduation or transfer by the end of the third spring after entry at the

college

Note: During FY2017, a case study will be conducted to identify the underlying factors of the success gap for Students of Color
