I OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1 Knowledge:

use the lexical items related to the topic “Traffic” Pronounce sounds /ai/, /ei/ correctly in isolation and in context

* Vocab: Road signs

Pronounce sounds /ai/, /ei/

* Grammar:

2 Competences:

- Using the verbs and talking about the distance.

- Saying the sounds /ai/ and /ei/

III PROCEDURES:

1.Warm-up (5’)

* Aim: - activate students’ knowledge on the topic of the unit.

- set the context for the listening and reading part

* Content: Game: Brainstorm

* Products: Ss say the words

Brainstorm the Ss: let them give all road signs they see

every day on the way to school, or elsewhere, and all

the words they know related to the topic of traffic and

transport Encourage them to say out as many words as

possible.

2 Presentation (5’)

* Aim: Enrich students’ vocabulary to talk about the traffic

* Content: Vocabulary about the road signs

* Products: Read and understand the meaning of words

* Aims:

* Content:

- Matching

- Write the road signs

- Practice saying under the examples

Students read vocabularies exactly aloud

Task 1: (5’) T-Ss , Ss – Ss

Writing

Ss work in pairs to talk about the meaning of the

road signs, then write out their answers.

Task 2:

Look at the road sign then write the correct phrases under the signs

3 no right turn 4 cycle lane

5 school ahead 6 no cycling

Task 3: (5’)T-Ss, Ss-Ss

Let Ss work in pairs and talk about the traffic

signs they see on the way to school ( or else) T

goes around and gives assitance if necessary,

and check their answers

Task 3: Work in pairs take turn to say of the signs you see on

the way to school.

Example:

A: On the way to school, I can see a “ no left turn” sign B: On my way to school there is a hospital, so I can see a

“hospital ahead” sign.

PRONUNCIATION: (7’)

* Aims: teach Ss how to pronounce the sounds /ɑi/ and /ei/ and practise

pronouncing these sounds in words correctly

* Content: Understand and how to pronounce the sounds /ɑi/ and /ei/

* Products: Students pronounce words exactly

Task 4: (4’) Listen and repeat

(Pre-teach the sounds / i/ and ɑ

/ei/)

- Teacher introduces 2 sounds /ɑi/

and /ei/ to students and lets them

watch a video about how to

pronounce these two sounds

- T gives some words and show how

to pronounce these two sounds

Task 4: Listen and repeat

Suggested answers:

- / i/: cycle, fly, …ɑ

- /ei/: sail, train, …

Task 5:(3’) T-Ss, Ss - Ss

Before listening, teacher let students discuss in

pairs and find the words with the sounds / ɑ i/

and /ei/.

-Teacher plays the recording for students to

check and repeat the sentences.

-Have them work in pairs to compare their
