REFURBISHMENT PROJECT
Collinsville, Queensland, Australia
control wiring system of Collinsville Power Station.

Power & Control Division, KRONE (Australia) Technique Pty Limited
Trang 2Project Background
Collinsville, a thermal energy
driven power station with a
generating capacity of 200MW,
is located on Australia’s
Queensland coast
First commissioned in the
late 1960’s, the power station
was later decommissioned in
1988
The current refurbishment
project began in mid 1997 and
is a joint venture between
Northern River Generation and
Transfield Power Technologies
Initial Evaluation
Using conventional screw
technology, it takes 4 1/2 hours,
on average, to prepare a field
termination box with 180
connections The labour time
includes glanding, marking,
looming, stripping, ferruling and
screwing of wires
Transfield Power
Technologies found that the
labour time could be reduced to
1 hour if KRONE’s Insulation
Displacement Connection (IDC)
technology is used This
method does not require any
wire preparation prior to
termination
The decision to use KRONE’s Terminator™and Profil modules was also influenced by user benefits such as:
• the reliability of the KRONE IDC contact
• the robust construction of the module
• quick clip-on mounting of modules to DIN rail (time savings of up to 94%)
• neat and tidy installation with work access from top of module
• disconnection feature for circuit isolation
• high density system
• integral numbering system
Scope of Work
The scope of work covers the instrumentation and control of five turbines (one 60MW and four 35MW) and five boilers with wiring extending from the control rooms out into the field
It is estimated that the Collinsville refurbishment project will involve in excess of 130,000 single terminations of which 75% will require a disconnection facility
KRONE’s Terminator™and Profil terminal modules are being used on the power station’s control wiring system
The wiring from the Programmable Computer Management System (PCMS) cabinets requires both disconnection and feed-through terminations to allow for
patching of field devices

Scope of work for DMC Electrical Services
The labour time required for wiring
180 connections was reduced by
78% when using KRONE’s IDC
technology
Trang 3The existing density of the
exchange racks is required to be
doubled, making space a real
premium
With the Terminator™
System, all work is carried out
from the top of the modules
and there is no need for lugs to
be fitted Therefore, KRONE’s
termination technology enables
the density of terminations to be
doubled without sacrificing the
required working space

Termination Tool

cables terminated to incoming side

The wiring in the
exchange racks involves looming
the wires to their termination
points without the use of slotted
ducts
Normally, excess wire is
cropped, measured and cut to
length before the wire can be
terminated
By using KRONE’s “Wire
Cutting and Termination Tool”,
the cropping and measuring of
each wire can be eliminated
This timesaving tool cuts the
wire to length and completes
the termination in one single
operation
Labelling
The labeling of terminals is kept simple by utilising the built-in prefix system on the KRONE modules In addition, the KRONE label holder, fitted with a label carrier and ID characters, is used
Cables
Dekoron cable (0.5 and 1.5mm2)
is used for carrying both analog and digital signals (up to 110V DC) The larger dia cable is used where mechanical stress is a concern and for patching between circuits

The KRONE Advantage
By using KRONE Terminator™
and Profil Modules, it is
estimated that, during the
installation, in excess of
$60,000 and 2,500 hours will
be saved.
