Under Paragraph 101 to 111 of the AFSCME Agreement an AFSCME employee is a 'Probationary Employee' the first three months of employment The pay rate of the employee will be increased to the

'Job Rate' at the beginning of the first pay period following completion of the probationary period

During the probationary period, it is important to determine whether the individual demonstrates the

skills and abilities necessary for continued service with your department and the University If the

individual is not meeting the requirements of the job, corrective action should be taken prior to the

completion of the probationary period Counsel and assistance in handling this situation are available

from the Employee Relations or Staff and Union Relations section of the Human Resources and

Affirmative Action Office

The following evaluation and recommendation concerning the staff member listed above should be

completed

B _ Staff Member shows promise, but must make more progress in certain areas

C _ Staff Member is making satisfactory progress
