Một số động từ quá khứ thường gặp:

Động từ bất qui tắc

(học thuộc lòng)

-be → was/were

-have → had

-go → went

-buy → bought

Động từ theo qui tắc

-return → returned -visit → visited -help → helped -talk → talked

Cách đọc động từ có “ed” : có 3 cách đọc

1 “ed” được đọc là /id/ khi động từ có âm tận cùng là “t, d”

Ex: needed, wanted,

2 “ed” được đọc là /t/ khi động từ có âm tận cùng là “p, k, s,

f(gh), ∫(sh), t ∫(ch)

Ex: like, helped, watched,…

3 “ed”được đọc là /d/ khi động từ tận cùng bằng những âm

còn lại

Ex: lived, loved, turned,…

- yesterday : ngày hôm qua

- last week/ year/ month: tuần/tháng/ năm trước

- ago – 3 weeks ago/ two years ago : 3 tuần trước/ 2 năm trước

- in 2001: năm trong quá khứ
