Period 25 UNIT 5: CAN YOU SWIM?

Lesson 1 (1  2)

A Aims:

By the end of the period, Ss will be able to ask and answer about What someone can or can’t do

Language focus: What can you do? I can dance but I can’t sing.

1 Lexical items:

- skip, skate, cook, swim, dance, sing, draw, can, can’t

2 Sentences patterns:

What can you do?

I can dance

Teaching aids: Ss’ book, radio, Cd, ect

B Procedures:

1 Warm - up:

- Listen to the song I can jump ( download internet)

2 Look, listen and repeat.

- Set the scene: Who are they? Where are they? What is he doing?( point to Phong, Nam), What are they talking about?

- Ask Ss to listen and repeat from twice to three times

- Ask Ss to work in pair

- Call some Ss to roleplay the dialogue in the pictures

- Correct their pronunciation

- Explain to Ss some vocabulary:

T mimes, S guess: dance, sing, draw …

- Help Ss understand the meaning of the dialogues

- Elicit sentence patterns from Ss

What can you do?

I can dance

- Ask Ss to look at the pictures and identify the activities

- T makes models

- Have Ss repeat and make sure that Ss can pronounce verbs correctly

- Ask Ss to work in pairs

Lesson 1 (3  5)

A Objectives: By the end of the period, Ss will be able to pracice

listening, writing and speaking about what someone can / can’t do

Language focus: Revise

1 Lexical items: skip, read, ride a bike, cook,

2 Sentences patterns: What can you do? I can dance

Teaching aids: radio, Cd, ect

B Procedures:

1 Warm – up.

T asks :

- What can you do?

S1: I can … but I can’t ……

S2: I can … but I can’t ……

S3: ………

Then chant aloud

2 Listen and tick.

Instructions:

- Have S identify the activities in each picture:

- Look at the pictures: Number 1: who is this? what can he do?

- Tell S listen and tick

- Then compare with the partner

- Listen and check

- Ask S to give the answers

- Number 1/ 2: which picture do you choose? What did you hear? Good Answers: 1 ; 2 ; 3

3 Look and write.

- Have S look at the pictures and identify the abilities, then read aloud

- Ask S to complete the sentences

- Then ask S to read aloud

- T comments

4 Let’s play.

Language focus: Can you play volleyball? Yes, I can/ No, I can’t

1 Lexical items:

- play table tennis, play volleyball, play the piano, play the guitar, play football

Teaching aids: radio, Cd, ect

B Procedures:

1 Warm – up.

- play the game: noughts and crosses dance help my parents cook play football draw skate swim sing play the guitar

2 Look, listen and repeat.

- Set the scene: Who are they? ( Peter, Tom) What are they doing? What are they talking about?

- Ask Ss to listen

Language focus: Revise

1 Lexical items: play chess, cycle,

Teaching aids: radio, Cd, ect

B Procedures:

1 Warm – up.

- Play the game: Whisper and write :

Have S play in 2 teams, each team has 5 to 6 children

Sentence: I can dance, I can sing but I can’t swim…

2 Listen and number:

- Have Ss understand the pictures:

- Ask Ss to listen and number

- Listen and check

- Give feedback

Answers: 1 ; 2 ; 3 ; 4

3 Look and write.

4 Let’s sing.

- Call some S to sing and class comment

Lesson 3 (1  3) A.Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to practice about phonics “ sing/ swim” and futher practice about asking the abilities

Resources: Ss’ book, chalk, board ect

B.Procedures:

1 Warm - up:

- Let’s sing the song Can you swim?

2 Listen and repeat.

- Put the letter on the board

- What letters are they?

- Now have Ss produce the sound of s sing I can sing.

- Listen and repeat

- Do the same step with sw swim I can’t swim

- Ask Ss to work in pair to practice and demonstrate

- Give feedback

3 Listen and number Then say aloud.

- Ask Ss to listen twice and give the answers

- Listen and check

4 Let’s chant

Instructions:

- Have S look at the chant and read aloud

- Then listen

- Listen again and repeat in chorus

- Practice chanting in pairs

- Call some S to chant

- Listen and chant again

Lesson 3 (4  6) A.Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to futher practice asking about the abilities through reading and writing

Resources: Ss’ book, chalk, board ect

B.Procedures:

1 Warm - up:

- Have class chant Can you sing on p34.

2 Read and complete.

- Tell S to read the passage and write the names in each picture

- Have S identify the activities in each picture:

Ex: T point to picture 1: What is it? ( play chess) can or can’t play chess? And next: can or can’t swim?

- Then Ss read in silence and write names

- Then ask S to give the answers

- Give feedback

5 Write about you.

- T ask S :

* what’s your name? What can you do? What can’t you do?

- Give feedback:

Hi ! My name is Thanh I can sing I can dance and play the piano, but I can’t play football What about you?

- Have S write about them, then read aloud to class comment

6 Project:

- Have S look at the chart in book Identify the activities in the chart

- T model: T: Hoa, Can you swim?

Hoa: yes, I can

Then T write name Hoa into the first column

T: and you, Hung?

Hung: No, I can’t

T don’t write Hung into the chart

- Have S take the chart into a piece of paper and go around to make question and complete

- Give the time limit

- Then report the results to the class

- Give comments
