-Basic English (Anh ngữ cơ bản) được sử dụng để học Tiếng Anh bước đầu, tạo cơ sở cho

việc tiếp tục học sâu rộng hơn

- BASIC là từ viết tắt của British –American – Scientific – International -Commercial Người sáng tạo ra Basic English là C.K Ogden từ đầu năm 1926, được thủ tướng Anh W Churchil và tổng thống Mỹ F Roosevelt ủng hộ Năm 1947 Basic English được chính phủ Anh mua bản quyền và thành lập BASIC ENGLISH FOUNDATION.

- Basic English chỉ dùng 850 từ, trong khi từ điển có thể chứa 10 vạn đến 50 vạn từ Trong

số 850 từ cơ bản này, có 600 từ chỉ đồ vật và sự việc (Danh từ), 150 từ chỉ tính chất, đặc điểm (Tính từ) và 100 từ chỉ thao tác, hành động (bao gồm cả động từ, giới từ và trạng từ)

-Việc kết hợp các loại từ giúp làm giảm rất nhiều số động từ Ví dụ: thay to buy bằng to give money for

- Ngoài Basic English ra nếu người học sử dụng từ điển thì khi tra cứu từ điển cũng cần để

ý đến các từ có cùng gốc (collocation) với từ đó để làm giàu thêm cho vốn từ của mình và giúp cho việc sử dụng từ được linh hoạt hơn
