6 DESCRIPTION OF MATERIALS
The materials will be submitted to the Engineer for approval and material tests inlaboratory will be implemented before commencement of embankment work under theinspection of the Engineer

Trang 6The frequency of test during construction is in accordance with Clause 3.7(f) underSection 03400 “Embankment Construction” in General Specifications, therefore the testfrequency for Borrow Material cover for each sample lot (with 03 samples) / eachborrow pit, submission and approval shall be required for one (01) sample lot (with 03samples) / 1500m3 of filling soil at site
The testing result of Borrow Material should be used for the classification of soil to beapproved by the Engineer
Borrow material will be chosen how to meet requirements and conditions to fill orbackfill embankment as shown on drawings Backfill materials must not contain organicsubstances such as: leaves, weeds, roots and garbage
Any backfil materials are classified according to soil classification system ( VietnamStandard 5747- 1993 ) belongs to OL, OH or Pt which will not be used Classifiedmaterials like: GW, GP, GM, GC, SW, SP, SM and SC will be approved of suitablematerials provided that they are reasonable and do not separate characteristics Unless ithas other regulations on the drawing of Contract or of other parts, classified materials are

Embankment rock material
Rock fragments and boulders with a largest dimension of 80 cm could be used forEmbankment Construction depending on the proposed plan of the Contractor, reviewedand approved by the Engineer
In the case the use of rock fragments and boulders is allowed by the Engineer, thefilling material between the large rock fragments and boulders shall be finer material,composed of rock fragments, gravel, sand or soil, in accordance with materialrequirements

Trang 11the Engineer except for Structure Excavation, rock excavation as defined, the removal,handling and proper utilization or disposal of all excavated materials and shaping ofexcavation and preparation of exposed surface of excavation for the entire length of theroadway and approaches, in accordance with these Specifications and the lines, levels,grades, dimensions and cross-sections shown on the Drawings and as required by theEngineer.
(b) Applicable Provisions
The applicable provisions of Section 03000 “Scope of Work and General” shall be readinto and become part of this Clause 2.2.1 “Common Excavation”
(c) Removal or Disposal of Unsuitable Material
When so directed in writing by the Engineer, the Contractor shall remove materialunsuitable for use in the embankment and shall dispose of it as provided in Clause 2.2.3
"Excavation of Unsuitable Material" Where the excavation reveals a combination ofsuitable and unsuitable materials the Contractor shall unless otherwise agreed by theEngineer, carry out the excavation in such a manner that the suitable materials areexcavated separately for use in the Works without contamination by the unsuitablematerials When unsuitable material below subgrade level in cut or below embankmentfoundation level is ordered to be removed, the soil left in place after the removal of theunsuitable material shall be compacted, to a depth of 20 cm, to a density of 92 percent ofthe maximum dry density determined according to AASHTO T180-D or as instructed bythe Engineer Payment for such compaction and testing shall be included in the unit ratefor Common Excavation
7.2.2.2 Rock Excavation
