Classroom Requirements

This course requires a classroom with a minimum of one computer for the instructor and one for each student Before class begins, install and configure all computers by using the following information and instructions

! Super VGA (SVGA) 17-inch monitor

! Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

! Sound card with speakers

! Internet access

! Projection display device that supports SVGA 800x600, 256-colors (instructor computer only)

Except where noted, all classroom computers require the following software configuration:

! Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

• Domain Name Service (DNS)

• Active Directory

• Message Queuing Services

• Windows Support Tools

! Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Standard Edition

Classroom Configuration

The classroom is configured in a multiple domain model in which each classroom computer is promoted to domain controller Use computer names, domain names, and NETBIOS names from the table If a DHCP server is available, use it to assign IP addresses Otherwise, use the IP addresses provided

Computer name IP address and preferred

DNS server Domain name and NETBIOS name

All computers are assigned the Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0

When setting up Windows 2000 Server, all computers are set to not participate

in a network and assigned to WORKGROUP

Computer Setup Instructions

Use the following procedures to prepare each computer for class

Before You Begin

You will need to do the following:

! Read all of the setup procedures

! Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials CD that is provided with the course materials

Estimated time to set up the classroom: 7 hours

1 Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions (Refer to the hardware requirements.)

2 Configure the hard disk as follows:

• Format drive C with at least a 4-gigabyte (GB) partition

To increase the speed of installation, run SMARTDrive 5.0 or higher, (smartdrv.exe), a utility which ships with Microsoft MS-DOS version 6.22, prior to running the Windows 2000 Server setup program

1 Insert the CD containing Microsoft Windows 2000 Server in the CD-ROM drive

2 If the setup program starts, skip to step 5

3 Open an MS-DOS command prompt window

4 Change to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM, type winnt, and then press Enter Windows 2000 Server files will be copied to the hard disk

5 Follow the prompts to install Windows 2000 Server Use the parameters provided in the following table Respond to all other installation prompts with defaults or with information appropriate for your computer or location

When the following information is required Use

Allow Windows 2000 installer to convert

the drive to NTFS from FAT

Regional settings Use a setting appropriate to your locale Personalize your software Enter your name and the name of your

organization

Licensing modes Per Server; five concurrent connections

Computer name Instructor should be the name of the

instructor computer

Studentxx should be the name of the student

computers.

Administrator password Leave blank

Windows 2000 components Add Message Queuing Services

Add Domain Name Service (DNS) found

in Networking Services

If you are installing Windows 2000 on a computer that does not have a network

interface card installed click Finish in the Completing the Windows 2000

Setup Wizard dialog box The computer will then restart You may resume the

setup at the beginning of the “Add Microsoft Loopback Adaptor” procedure Date and time settings Use the correct date and time

Networking settings Click Custom Settings and then click

Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Workgroup and computer domain Click OK The default selection is No,

this computer is not on a network, or is

in a network without a domain using WORKGROUP

Completing Windows 2000 Setup Wizard

Finish

1 Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab

2 Use the slider to configure the screen area to 800 by 600 pixels

3 Click OK, and then click OK again in the Display Properties dialog box

! Add Microsoft Loopback Adaptor

Run this procedure only if your computer does not have a network adapter card installed

1 Open the Add/Remove Hardware control panel The Welcome dialog box appears Click Next

2 The Choose a Hardware Task dialog box appears Click Add/Troubleshoot a Device and then click Next

3 The Choose a Hardware Device dialog box appears In the Devices list, click Add a new device and then click Next

4 The Find New Hardware dialog box appears Click No, I want to select the hardware from a list and then click Next

5 The Hardware Type dialog box appears Select Network adapters from the Hardware types list and then click Next

6 The Select Network Adapter dialog box appears

a In the Manufacturers list, select Microsoft

b In the Network Adapter list, select Microsoft Loopback Adapter

c Click Next

7 The Start Hardware dialog box appears Click Next

8 The Completing the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard dialog box appears Click Finish

9 Right-click My Network Places and then click Properties

10 In the Network and Dial-up Properties control panel, right-click Local Area Connection and then click Properties

11 Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click Properties

12 Click Use the following IP address and then enter the following

! Configure DNS

1 Log on as Administrator If the Configure Your Server dialog box is not

displaying by default, then access it by opening Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Configure Your Server

2 In the Configure Your Server dialog box, click Networking and then click DNS In the main pane, click Manage DNS

3 In the DNS administration console, right-click your computer and choose

Configure the server

4 Use this table to complete the Configure DNS Server Wizard

field (for example, 131.107.2)

and then click Next

If you are using dynamic IP addressing, run ipconfig at a DOS command prompt to obtain your IP address

Zone File Create a new file with

this file name:

xxx.xxx.xxx

in-addr.arpa.dns

Click Next

Completing the Configure DNS Server Wizard

Click Finish

In the following procedures, domainX refers to the computer’s domain

name

1 In the DNS console, expand the computer

2 Expand the Forward Lookup Zones folder

3 Click the plus sign next to the domainX.com zone Right-click domainx.com

and then click Properties

4 In the domainX.com Properties dialog box, set the dynamic updates

drop-down option to Yes and then click OK

5 In the DNS console, expand the Reverse Lookup Zones folder again

6 Click the plus sign next to 131.107.2.x Subnet folder Right-click

131.107.2.x Subnet and then click Properties

7 In the domainX.com Subnet Properties dialog box, set the dynamic updates

drop-down option to Yes and then click OK

8 Close the DNS console

1 In the Configure Your Server window, click Active Directory

2 Scroll to the bottom of the window and click Start the Active Directory Wizard Use this table to complete the Active Directory Wizard

! Configure the Domain Controller Audit Policy

1 Click the Run menu, then click Programs, Administrative Tools, and then click Domain Controller Security Policy

2 Expand Security Settings and then expand Local Policies Click Audit Policy

3 Open Audit object access

4 Place a check in Success and then click OK The Define these policy settings check box is checked by default

5 Close the Domain Controller Security Policy tool

Set the folder options to show operating system files and hidden files

1 Open My Computer, select Tools, and then select Folder Options Select the View tab

a Click Show hidden files and folders under the Hidden files and folders branch

b Clear Hide file extensions for known file types

c Clear Hide protected operating system files Click Yes

d Click Apply then click Like Current Folder

e Click OK to close the Folder Options dialog box

1 Run the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 setup executable

1 Insert the Visual Studio 6.0 CD

2 If Autorun does not execute, run Setup.exe from the root of the CD

3 On the Installation Wizard, click Next

4 On the End User License Agreement page, select I accept the agreement if you accept the terms of the agreement and then click Next

5 On the Product Number and User ID page, enter the CD key for your copy

of Microsoft Visual Studio, your name, and your company name Then click

Next

6 On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition page, select Custom and then click Next

7 On the Choose Common Install Folder page, accept the default folder

location and then click Next

8 On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Setup window, click Continue

9 In the Product ID dialog box, click OK

10 From the list of components, select the following and then click Continue:

• Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0

• Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0

• ActiveX

• Data Access

• Enterprise Tools

• Tools

11 Setup will install Visual Studio

12 On the Restart Windows window, click Restart Windows, leaving the

CD-ROM in the drive

13 When Windows restarts, log in as Administrator

14 On the Install MSDN page, select Install MSDN and then click Next

15 Insert Disk 1 of the MSDN Library Click OK on the Locate Microsoft Developer Network Disk 1 dialog box

16 In the MSDN Library window, click Continue

17 Click OK to confirm the Product ID

18 Click I Agree on the License Agreement page

19 Click Custom on the MSDN Installation page to install the following

20 Click Yes, when asked to create a shortcut

21 Insert the remaining MSDN disks when prompted

22 When the MSDN Library setup completion message is displayed, click

OK

23 On the Other Client Tools page, do not select any of the tools Click Next

24 On the Server Setups page, do not select any of the server tools Click Next

25 Register your copy of MSDN and Visual Studio in a manner appropriate to your situation

26 In the Configure your Server window, unselect the Show this Window at Startup check box and close the window
