This course requires a classroom with a minimum of one computer for the instructor and one for each student Before class begins, install and configure all computers by using the following information and instructions
! Super VGA (SVGA) 17-inch monitor
! Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
! Sound card with speakers
! Internet access
! Projection display device that supports SVGA 800x600, 256-colors (instructor computer only)

The classroom is configured in a multiple domain model in which each classroom computer is promoted to domain controller Use computer names, domain names, and NETBIOS names from the table If a DHCP server is available, use it to assign IP addresses Otherwise, use the IP addresses provided
Computer name IP address and preferred
DNS server Domain name and NETBIOS name
All computers are assigned the Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0
When setting up Windows 2000 Server, all computers are set to not participate
in a network and assigned to WORKGROUP

Use the following procedures to prepare each computer for class
Before You Begin
You will need to do the following:
! Read all of the setup procedures
! Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials CD that is provided with the course materials
Estimated time to set up the classroom: 7 hours
1 Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions (Refer to the hardware requirements.)
2 Configure the hard disk as follows:
• Format drive C with at least a 4-gigabyte (GB) partition
To increase the speed of installation, run SMARTDrive 5.0 or higher, (smartdrv.exe), a utility which ships with Microsoft MS-DOS version 6.22, prior to running the Windows 2000 Server setup program
1 Insert the CD containing Microsoft Windows 2000 Server in the CD-ROM drive
2 If the setup program starts, skip to step 5
3 Open an MS-DOS command prompt window
4 Change to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM, type winnt, and then press Enter Windows 2000 Server files will be copied to the hard disk
5 Follow the prompts to install Windows 2000 Server Use the parameters provided in the following table Respond to all other installation prompts with defaults or with information appropriate for your computer or location

1 Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab
2 Use the slider to configure the screen area to 800 by 600 pixels
3 Click OK, and then click OK again in the Display Properties dialog box

1 Open the Add/Remove Hardware control panel The Welcome dialog box appears Click Next

3 The Choose a Hardware Device dialog box appears In the Devices list, click Add a new device and then click Next
4 The Find New Hardware dialog box appears Click No, I want to select the hardware from a list and then click Next
5 The Hardware Type dialog box appears Select Network adapters from the Hardware types list and then click Next
6 The Select Network Adapter dialog box appears
a In the Manufacturers list, select Microsoft
b In the Network Adapter list, select Microsoft Loopback Adapter
c Click Next
7 The Start Hardware dialog box appears Click Next

9 Right-click My Network Places and then click Properties
10 In the Network and Dial-up Properties control panel, right-click Local Area Connection and then click Properties
11 Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click Properties

displaying by default, then access it by opening Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Configure Your Server
2 In the Configure Your Server dialog box, click Networking and then click DNS In the main pane, click Manage DNS
3 In the DNS administration console, right-click your computer and choose

1 In the DNS console, expand the computer
2 Expand the Forward Lookup Zones folder
3 Click the plus sign next to the domainX.com zone Right-click domainx.com
and then click Properties
4 In the domainX.com Properties dialog box, set the dynamic updates
drop-down option to Yes and then click OK
5 In the DNS console, expand the Reverse Lookup Zones folder again
6 Click the plus sign next to 131.107.2.x Subnet folder Right-click
131.107.2.x Subnet and then click Properties
7 In the domainX.com Subnet Properties dialog box, set the dynamic updates
drop-down option to Yes and then click OK
8 Close the DNS console

2 Expand Security Settings and then expand Local Policies Click Audit Policy

Set the folder options to show operating system files and hidden files

5 On the Product Number and User ID page, enter the CD key for your copy
of Microsoft Visual Studio, your name, and your company name Then click
Next
6 On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition page, select Custom and then click Next
7 On the Choose Common Install Folder page, accept the default folder
location and then click Next
8 On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Setup window, click Continue
9 In the Product ID dialog box, click OK

15 Insert Disk 1 of the MSDN Library Click OK on the Locate Microsoft Developer Network Disk 1 dialog box
16 In the MSDN Library window, click Continue
17 Click OK to confirm the Product ID
18 Click I Agree on the License Agreement page
19 Click Custom on the MSDN Installation page to install the following
20 Click Yes, when asked to create a shortcut
21 Insert the remaining MSDN disks when prompted
22 When the MSDN Library setup completion message is displayed, click
OK
23 On the Other Client Tools page, do not select any of the tools Click Next
24 On the Server Setups page, do not select any of the server tools Click Next
25 Register your copy of MSDN and Visual Studio in a manner appropriate to your situation
26 In the Configure your Server window, unselect the Show this Window at Startup check box and close the window
