Carrier-Class Solutions for

Next-Generation Cable Networks

Video-on demand Tiered high-speed data VoIP.

Commercial services The cable business is evolving to

deliver advanced services To successfully launch these new

services, headends and hubs are becoming more advanced,

efficient, flexible, reliable, and ready to deliver new services.

With a history anchored in building highly reliable carrier

class telecom networks, ADC is uniquely qualified to help

cable operators design and build reliable and flexible

multivendor headends, hubs and data centers This is

particularly important as operators evolve their networks

to the demanding requirements associated advanced

services such as VoIP.

A Comprehensive Approach

ADC delivers a wide variety of leading products and services to help ensure that the evolving network will be capable of delivering the kind of highly reliable service consumers expect In order to reach this level of service, operators must begin thinking about "the ideal headend," paying careful attention to

"little things" like splitting and combining, network scalability, DC powering and proper cable

management A solid foundation of RF and fiber signal management and power distribution solutions can make network reconfigurations faster, easier to perform, and far less risky to implement.

Whether offering lifeline VoIP or tiered data to business customers, this comprehensive approach to performance means that the end-customer will get the stability, quality and reliability they’ll keep paying for month after month And, as customer take-rates grow, your network will scale along with your success

Just as essential for carrier-class solutions are experienced professionals who understand both standards and the methods and practices of sophisticated multivendor networks Major MSOs around the country turn to ADC’s Systems Integration team for professional engineering, installation, commissioning, and materials management.

As the number of services and types of technology associated with headends change, the requirements for RF combining, splitting, distribution and management of the RF signals within the headend will also change Headends are no longer configured for a largely static channel lineup RF signal management systems will face the challenges of multiple channel lineups as well as narrowcast insertion of enhanced service deployment such as:

These new services require two way signaling and the development of a robust reverse path To ensure the appropriate level of customer service, the network must achieve a very high level of reliability, often through headend redundancy The RF distribution and management infrastructure must be flexible, reliable and capable of future growth ADC’s RF Worx - RF Signal Management product line answers these criteria.

The RF Worx modules, combined with the cable management chassis, provide design engineers with a variety of products to simplify the headend signal management challenge The RF Worx modules supply the flexibility and reliability necessary to create a robust solution that will best prepare the headend for future requirements

• High isolation; operators can reuse frequencies

in a narrowcast application without usingamplifiers for isolation

ADC’s RF splitter/combiners and directional couplers provide passive splitting, combining and coupling of

RF signals Designed for use in the 5 MHz - l GHz or 0.95 - 2.15 GHz (satellite applications) frequency ranges, ADC’s modular splitter/combiners and directional couplers offer superior electrical performance The modular design provides the flexibility to add services and to grow those services as the need arises.

In the past, splitter/combiners were mounted to any structure that provided a space for attachment, such

as the rear of an equipment shelf or peg board mounted on a wall The lack of coaxial cable management inhibited access to equipment within a cabinet As broadband networks continue to evolve, easy access to the cables and equipment racks/cabinets must be maintained for routine addition, removal, and equipment maintenance ADC’s splitter/combiners and directional couplers are packaged into panels that mount within

a cabinet or rack and manage cables in a neat, orderly fashion, promoting continuous access, enabling network growth and offering further flexibility—all at a reduced cost

Features

• Modular panel mount design

• Flat insertion loss

• High port-to-port isolation

• BNC or F connectors

• 5 MHz – 1 GHz (HFC applications)

is necessary to split the downlink signal into equal signals These split signals are then fed to each receiving device individually.

RF Worx®satellite splitters provide a low insertion loss, higher return loss and high port-to-port isolation These industry-leading splitters are available in 2x1, 4x1, and 8x1 configurations Each splitter

configuration also has two ports that pass +24VDC from the receiver assigned to supply power to the LNB The splitter modules are designed for chassis mounting, and can be mounted in either a 19" EIA rack or onto a wall.
