To complete this activity, you must have completed the activities for modules 5 and 6

Materials

! The Future Corporate Network Topology provided in the Ferguson and Bardell, Inc case study

! The business object model created in Module 5

! The service layer topology created in activity 6.3

! Flip chart

! Self-stick notes

! Markers

Time to complete this activity: 20 minutes followed by a 10 minute discussion

Exercise 1: Creating Preliminary Service Type Based Components (10 minutes)

1 Participate in small groups as assigned by the instructor

2 Review the business object model created in Module 5

3 For each business object, break its high-level services into the appropriate service types

For example, the high-level service Authorize Card could be broken down into a specific user service, business service, and data service

4 After all high-level services have been decomposed into their appropriate service types, create preliminary components for each business object by packaging the different services of each type into separate components For example, the Invoice business object would have an Invoice User Services component, an Invoice Business Services component, and an Invoice Data Services component

Exercise 2: Distributing the Preliminary Components (10 minutes)

1 Participate in small groups as assigned by the instructor

2 Distribute all the preliminary components based on user services according

to where you have identified users services on the topology in Exercise 1

Be aware of possible component redundancy

3 Distribute all the preliminary components based on business services according to where you have identified business services on the topology in Exercise 1

4 Distribute all the preliminary components based on data services according

to where you have identified data services on the topology in Exercise 1

5 Choose a team representative to present the preliminary component topology that you have just created

After completing the above steps, you will discuss your responses with the class The instructor will write the class consensus on a flip chart
