This course requires a classroom with a minimum of one computer for the instructor and one for each student Before class begins, install and configure all computers by using the following information and instructions
Computer Setup
Except where noted with instructor computer only, both the instructor and student computers require the following hardware and software configuration
Hardware Requirements
The following list of hardware is the required minimum All hardware must be
on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Advanced Server
! Pentium II 400
! Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) 2.1 bus
! 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM
! 4-gigabyte (GB) hard disk
! 256-kilobyte (KB) Level 2 (L2) cache
! A digital video disc (DVD) drive
! Network adapter 10/100 Mb/s required (do not use Industry Standard Architecture [ISA] bus)
! 4-MB video adapter
! Super VGA (SVGA) monitor (17 inch)
! Microsoft Mouse or compatible input device

You will need to do the following:
! Read through all setup procedures
! Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials compact disc that is provided with the course materials
Estimated time to set up the classroom: 6 hours Time will vary based
on the number of computers

Use the following instructions to set up classroom computers
! Set up the hardware
1 Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions (For more information on hardware, see “Hardware Requirements” earlier in this section.)
2 Configure the hard disk as follows:
• Drive C: 4-GB formatted as FAT (file allocation table)
! Install Windows 2000 Advanced Server
To increase the speed of installation, run SMARTDrive 5.0 or a later version prior to running the Windows 2000 Server setup program Smartdrv.exe
is a utility that ships with Microsoft MS-DOS version 6.22
1 Insert the Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD in the CD-ROM drive
2 If Setup starts, skip to step 5
3 Open an MS-DOS command prompt window
4 Move to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM, type winnt and then press
ENTER Windows 2000 Server files will be copied to the hard disk
5 Install Windows 2000 Server, typing the correct information when prompted Use the parameters listed in the following table Use defaults or information that pertains to your computer or location

File system Use NTFS
Allow Windows 2000 to convert the drive to
NTFS from FAT
Regional settings Enter your regional information
Personalize your software Enter your name and the name of your
organization

Use the student computers name for StudentXX, where XX is the number of the student computer
Administrator password Set to password
Windows 2000 components Add NNTP Service, found in the details for
Internet Information Services (IIS)
Date and time settings Use today’s date and time

Completing Windows 2000 Setup Wizard
Remove the CD and click Finish
! Install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter
1 If your computer is not connected to a network, install the Microsoft
Loopback Adapter If your computer is connected to a network go to the next procedure, Configure Active Directory™
2 Open up Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Hardware
3 Click Next in the Welcome to the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard dialog
box
4 Select Add/Troubleshoot a device, and then click Next
5 In the Choose a Hardware Device dialog box, select Add a new device, and then click Next
6 In the Find New Hardware dialog box, select No, I want to select the hardware from a list, and then click Next
7 In the Hardware Type dialog box, select Network adapters, and then click Next
8 In the Select Network Adapter dialog box, on Manufactures, select Microsoft On Network Adapter, select Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and then click Next
9 In the Add/Remove Hardware dialog box, click Next
10 Click Finish

1 Double-click My Computer on the Desktop, select Tools, and then select Folder Options Select the View tab
2 Click Show hidden files and folders under Hidden files and folders
3 Deselect Hide file extensions for known file types
4 Deselect Hide protected operating system files Click Yes
5 Click Apply then click Like Current Folder Click Yes when prompted to
set all folder views with the current settings
6 Click OK
7 Quit My Computer
! Configure display settings
1 Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab
2 Use the slider to configure the screen area to 800 by 600 pixels
3 Click OK
4 Click OK when notified that Windows will apply the new settings
5 Click Yes to accept changes
6 Click OK to close Display Properties

1 Insert the Visual Studio 6.0 CD
2 If Autorun does not run, start Setup.exe from the root of the CD
3 On the Installation Wizard, click Next
4 On the End User License Agreement page, select I accept the agreement,
if you accept the terms of the agreement and then click Next
5 On the Product Number and User ID page, enter the CD key for your copy
of Microsoft Visual Studio; enter your name, and your company name Then
click Next
6 On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition page, select Custom and then click Next
7 On the Choose Common Install Folder page, accept the default folder
location and then click Next
8 In the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Setup window, click Continue
9 In the Product ID dialog box, click OK
10 From the list of components, select the following names:
• Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
• Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0
12 Setup installs Visual Studio
13 When prompted, click Restart Windows; leave the CD-ROM in the drive
14 When Windows restarts, log in as Administrator
15 On the Install MSDN page, select Install MSDN and then click Next
16 Insert Disk 1 of the MSDN Library Click OK on the Locate Microsoft Developer Network Disk 1 dialog box
17 In the MSDN Library window, click Continue
18 Click OK to confirm the Product ID
19 Click I Agree on the License Agreement page
20 Click Custom on the MSDN Installation page to install the following
21 When asked to create a shortcut, click Yes
22 Insert the remaining MSDN disks, when prompted
