- Review reported speech with gerund
- Give Ss some examples of direct speech, and then helps them to change them into indirect speech, using gerund
- Ex: 1 “It was nice of you to help me Thank you very much,” Tom said to me
Tom thanked me for helping him
2 Teacher: Come in, Peter!
Peter: I’m sorry I’m late
Peter apologized for being late
+ Form: S + V + (Object) + preposition + (not) + V-ing
+ Meaning:
- We usually use a gerund structure to report thanking, apologies, accusations, and so on.
- Some verbs do not need a preposition e.g.: stop, deny, admit, suggest …
- T should remind Ss that time and place references often have to change in reported speech
- Give some more examples to make sure Ss to understand clearly
