UNIT 4: MY NEIGHBOURHOOD LESSON 2: A CLOSER LOOK 1 ( P 40 ) A.OBJECTIVES:

1.Knowledge:- By the end of this lesson, students will be able to practice some adjectives to describe the place and practice to pronunce the sounds / I / and / i: /.

+ Vocabulary: narrow, fantastic, convenient, peaceful, polluted

+ Grammar:

2 Skills: Practice and develope lisening and speaking skills.

3.Attitude: Educate students to love their neighbourhood more and they will be interested in

learning English more

4 Competence: Ss can describe the place

B.TEACHING AIDS:

- Textbook , teacher’s book , lesson plan , board , chalks, pictures, posters, speaker

C METHODS:

- Chatting, Rub out and remember, gap - fill, matching, multiple - choice, pair-speaking

D CONTENTS:

I Oganization: (1 minute)

II Revision / Warmer: (5 minutes)

* Kim’s game.

- T shows 8 pictures on the board and runs through

- T asks Ss to look at the picture in about 30s and try to remember as much as they can

- T divides the class in to 2 groups Name -> check

- T asks Ss write the words on the board (One by one)

- T corrects, gives marks then praises the winner

+ Answer key:

Square, statue, temple, cathedral, palace, railway station, memorial, art gallergy

III New lesson: (37 minutes)

Step 1: Vocabulary ( 25 minutes)

* Activity 1: Gap - fill ( Part 1 p 40)

- T asks Ss to look at the words in the box and all the sentences also the pictures p 40 then T runs through

- T explains some words

- narrow (adj): chật, chật hẹp (antonym)

- fantastic (adj): tuyệt vời (synonym)

- convenient (adj): thuận tiện, tiện lợi (situation)

- polluted (adj): ô nhiễm (example)

- T gives the instructions: Fill in each blank with one word from the box

- T models

- Ss do individually then compare with their partners

- T gets Ss’ answers and writes on the board

- T plays the recording twice

- Ss listen and correct

- T plays the recording again and pause for Ss to repeat each word

- T corrects Ss’ pronunciation

* Activity 2: Matching ( Part 2)

- T shows the poster on the board then runs through

* Activity 3: Pair - speaking ( part 3 p 40)

- T asks Ss to use the adjectives which they have learnt in 1 and 2 then make the same questions and answers

- T models

A: Is our neighbourhood polluted?

B: No, it isn’t

A: Is it peaceful?

B: Yes, it is

- Ss work in pairs

- T walks around to see and help Ss

- T calls some pairs to speak aloud

Step2: Pronunciation./ i: / and / I / (12 minutes)

* Activity 1: Part 4 p 40

- T models the sound / i: / and / I / first then asks Ss to identify which sound is longer and

which one is shorter

- T asks Ss to practice / i: / and / I / sounds together.

- T plays the recording twice

- Ss listen and repeat

- T asks Ss to listen again then put the words in the right column

- Ss do individually then compare

- T gets Ss’ answers then corrects

+ Answer key:

* Activity 2: Part 5 p 40: Multiple choice.

- T asks Ss to look at part 5 p 40 then runs through

- T asks Ss to listen to the tape and circle the words they hear

- Ss listen and do the task individually then compare with their partners

- T gets Ss’ answers then corrects

+ Answer key:

- T asks Ss to repeat the main contents of the lesson: vocabulary, the sounds / i: / and / I /

V Homework: (1 minute)

- Learn by heart vocabulary

- Practice the sounds / i: / and / I /

- Do the exercises: 1, 2 in A and 1, 2, 3 in B

- Prepare the new lesson: Unit 4: Lesson 3: A closer look 2
