2 Research subjects and Research scope

2.1 Research subjects

The thesis explores the comprehensive features of historical novels inthe first ten years of the early 21st century Due to the large number ofhistorical novels in this period, the thesis focuses only on outstandingworks with distinctive features for historical novels in this period.(Appendix 1)

2.2 Research scope

The thesis focuses on understanding the basic characteristics of thegenre of historical novels in terms of genre trend and genre, characterworld, narrator, narrative point of view and narrative discourse

5 Scientific contributions of the thesis

First, through the examination and systematization of Vietnamesehistorical novels in the first decade of the 21st century, the thesisprovides an overview of the appearance of historical novels in the earlyyears of the 21st century

Second, pointing out the innovations in the concept of historicalnovels, the thesis is based on the theme and structure of the work toidentify some typical trends and patterns

Supporting previous works, this thesis employs a number of genretheories, poetic theories, narrative theories, neo-history theories andresearch methods on genre to focus on examining the distinctive features

of HN in the early 21st century The investigated aspects include trends,genre patterns (theme-based, structure-based), genre interaction;character world (identifying certain types of characters typical to thegenre, at the same time pointing out special artistic methods in portrayingcharacters); narrative mode (narrator, narrative point, narrative discourse)

in view of the previous HN Subsequently, the thesis proved themovement, the innovation in the concept of genre, and the artisticthinking of contemporary writers

Chapter 2 DISTICNTIVE FEATURES OF VIETNAMESE HISTORICAL NOVELS IN THE EARLY 21 ST CENTURY - FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF TREND AND GENRE

2.1 Innovation on art awareness and concept of genre

2.1.1 From the traditional view of "loyalty to history"
