Ex: My friend said: “You should sell your old motorbike.”

 My friend advised me to sell my old motorbike

Ex: Ben told me: “I’ll send you the ticket as soon as I get it.”

 Ben promised to send me the ticket as soon as he got it

Ex: The mother said: “Don’t go near the water , boy.”

 The mother warned boy not to go near the water

 Advise, warn, invite, remind,

encourage/ urge, order, beg/

implore + O + to infinitive.

 Promise, threaten, offer + to

infinitive.

II Practice:

* Exercise 1: Complete the second

sentence so that it has the same meaning as the first one

1 Bod said: “Would you like to go to the movies this evening, Jill?”

with me.” (order).

4 Felix said: “Do you want to go out for

dinner with me, Kate?” (invite).

5 The kidnapper told them: “I’ll kill your

son if you call the police.” (threaten).

6 Kim said to Lynn: “If I were you, I

wouldn’t accept his invitation.” (advise).

Blame + O + for + Ving: đỗ lỗi cho ai làm việc gì.

Prevent + O + from + Ving: ngăn cản ai làm việc gì.

Congratulate + O + on + Ving:

khen ngợi/ chúc mừng ai về việc gì.

Insist + on/ upon + Ving: khăng khăng đòi làm việc gì.

Thank + (O) + for + Ving: cảm

ơn ai về việc gì.

Warn + (O) + against + Ving:

khuyến cáo ai làm việc gì.

Admit (thừa nhận), deny (phủ nhận) , suggest ( đề nghị) + Ving.
