LESSON PLAN UNIT 12: THE ASIAN GAMES

Speaking Skill

1 Objectives:

- Skill: After the lesson, Ss will be able to ask and answer about the Asian games and sports

- Language: Ss will be able to build a wider range of vocabularies related to the topic

to make their own report about Vietnamese performance and achievements

2 Assumed knowledge:

Students have already known some basic vocabulary items and have had some background knowledge of the Asian Games

3 Teaching aids:

Textbook, blackboard, chalk, handouts

4 Procedure:

4.1 Settlement: Check Ss’ attendance (2m)

5m Warm-up: Game

- T prepares a set of 9 papers in which there are 9

names of different sports They are bodybuilding,

billiards, karate do, shooting, swimming, boxing,

weightlifting, table tennis, basket ball

- Calls 3 Ss to go to the board and picks 3 papers

but just one by one After picking each paper, Ss

have to describe the word by using their action; so

that others at class can guess what the word is

(name of the sport)

- Listen to the instruction

- Seeing peers’ actions and guessing the word

- Correct the answer

- Leads to the lesson

7m Pre-speaking:

- Asks Ss some questions related to the Asian

Games about which they have got knowledge

already

+ When were the first Asian Games held? And

where? ( In India in 1951)

+ What do we call the country that hold the Asian

games? (It is called host country)

+ did all countries in Asia take part in the first

Asian Games? Do you know how many? ( No,

there were 11 countries)

+ how many sports were played at the first Asian

Games? (6)

+ Do you think that the number of countries who

join AG later and number of sports would

increase? ( Yes)

+ What were the last Asian Games? Where and

when? ( The 15th Asian games in 2006 in Qater)

(Ss don’t know this answer, so it’s a way for T to

leads to the part of while-speaking)

- Listen to the instruction and the questions

- Answer the questions

23m While-speaking:

* Task 1 (10m)

- Prepares 2 set of cards as following:

- Discuss in pairs

- Fill information in the blanks in the card

- Perform some dialogues

- gets Ss to work in pairs and give one S card A

and the other card B

- Ask Ss in pairs take turn to ask and answer about

the AG so that after making such conversations,

two cards will be filled with all information

- Lets Ss discuss in 6m

- Goes around to check and to offer help

-Calls some pairs to perform and gives corrective

feedback

* Task 2: (13)

- Gets Ss to discuss in groups of 4, asking them to

play the role:

You are a group of TV reporters of a Sports

channel Vietnamese team has participated in the

14th Asian Games in Korea You have to make a

report about Vietnamese performance and

achievements at the Games

(Notes: Report should include information about

the 14th Asian Games and then Vietnamese

achievements such as medals…)

- Lets Ss discuss in 8m

- Calls some groups to present their report in front

of the class

- Give comments and marks (if possible)

- Listen to the instruction

- Discuss in groups of 4

- Give presentation of what they have prepared

- Listen to their peers and give comments

8 Post-speaking:

- Asks Ss to write the report about Vietnamese

performance and achievements at the 14th Asian

Games basing on what they have discussed

- Calls 1 S to write on the board and others write

on their notebooks

- Lets them write in 5m and then asks for

comments from Ss

- Give feedback

- Listen to the instruction

- write the report

- Give comments

- Correct mistakes

4.3 Consolidation: - Asks Ss to revise the lesson at home and prepare for the next

lesson Part C: Listening
