The following notes relate to the photocopiable

activities on pages 64~93 They are listed according to

which unit they relate to There is also a more specific

reference to the page within the unit comes from

However, this does not mean the activities have to be

done at a specific point in the course They can be used

flexibly to provide students with extra speaking practice

or revision

1 Everday activities

Time: 20-25 minutes

Student’s Book pages 8-11

* Photocopy and cut up one page of cards for each pair

of students

+ Give each pair a set of picture cards and a set of

frequency adverb cards, and tell them to place the

two packs face down on the table

+ Students take turns at turning over the top two cards

and making sentences about themselves or someone

they know, The sentences can be true or false (but

should be believable)

* Students keep a note of the sentences,

* When all the picture cards have been used, students

join with another pair and read out their sentences

The other pair tries to guess which sentences are true

and which are false

+ Photocopy and cut up one page for each group + Divide the cards evenly among the students of each group (for groups of three, five cards each; for groups

of four, four cards each)

+ The first student puts one of their cards face up on the table The second student then puts down one of

theirs and tries to make a sentence using the two cards Eg: A plane can fly and a bird can, too A bird

can't smile and @ computer can’t either

+ Sentences must be of the too or either kind (remind students to look at the Note! on page 15 if necessary) + If the rest of the group judges the sentence to be

correct, the student keeps the pair of cards and puts

another card down If it is incorrect, the next student

tries to make a sentence, and so on until a correct

* Photocopy and cut up enough picture cards to distribute three or four cards to each student in half

of the class

* Photocopy the list of items for the other half of the

* Divide the class into two groups: Group A are

holidaymakers, and Group B are shop assistants Give a list to each holidaymaker, and distribute the picture cards evenly among the shop assistants + Tell the holidaymakers to choose four items on their list that they want to take with them on holiday Then tell them to walk around asking the shop

assistants if they have those items

* After five minutes, see how many have collected all

their items

* Students then swap roles, the cards are collected in and redistributed Play the game again
