Narrative organization

What is a narrative essay?

A narrative essay tells a story A story is made

up with:

• Setting : the location

• Theme : the basic idea

• Mood : the feeling or atmosphere

• Characters : the people

• Plot : the sequence of events (climax / turning points)

What is the organization of a

narration?

• 1 Introduction

• 2 Body

• 3 Conclusion

1 Introduction

Hook makes the readers guess/ interested in the story

Background information gives the readers the

information from the story.

- Where did the story happen?

- When did the story happen?

- Who are the characters?

- What is the story about?

Thesis statement prepares the readers to join in the

story.

• 2 Body

- Describe the sequence of events in the story The

actions are arranged in the order of time.

- Describe the context (sights, smells, sounds, tastes,

feeling)

- Describe the emotions of the characters

• 3 Conclusion

- Describe the outcome of the story

- Describe the lesson the character received after the experience

- Present the prediction or revelation about future actions that will happen as a result of the events in the story

My sister and I made a dangerous mistake one summer I was thirteen and

my sister was fourteen, and our parents had taken us to the city where they grew

up We felt very grown up as we rode to the hotel in a taxi The hotel was very big, and

it had a blue tile floor After we unpacked our suitcase, our parents wanted to go to the market My mother told us not to go outside “We won’t,” my sister promised, but I knew that she was lying We had already decided to go out and explore this strange and beautiful city by ourselves

us even though we had learned our lesson This dangerous adventure is still a secret that I share with my sister.

Four tips when writing Narration

• First: - create a neatly worked - out plot

- use the order of time

- story should have a climax.

• Second: - focus on the description of the context

- use sensory details

• Third: - describe the emotions of the characters

• Finally: - state the lesson, experience or prediction
