We always use 打 (dǎ) in the following situations:

A 打电话 (dǎ diànhuà): to make a phone call

B 打扫卫生 (dásǎo wèishēng): to clean

C 打篮球 (dǎ lánqiú): to play basketball

D 打羽毛球 (dǎ yǔmáoqiú): to play badminton

Note: When we say "to play football," we never say "打足球 (dǎ zúqiú)." Instead, wesay "踢足球 (tī zúqiú)."

E 他打我 (tā dǎ wǒ): He hits me
