Be going to: I’m going to have a shower

Present Continuous: She isn’t catching the plane

When we talk about events in the future that we expect to happen but that are not in our control

- We can use will or be going to Example: Robert will be/is going to be 24 next

month

When we talk about events in the future that are in our control, we use will at the time we decide

Can you open the door, please? Yes, I will open it

We use be going to after we have decided what to do, we express our intention

My son is having problems at the school I am going to talk to his teachers

When a sentence has two parts that refers to

the future, we use the present simple After if,

when, before, After, as soon as, until and Will

in the other part of the sentence

If it rains, you’ll get wet

As soon as he comes, we’ll leave

Present Continuous is used to talk about future arrangements that we have already made
