a young woman on a date The attack happened in the northern Indian town of Meerat The woman's crime was to cuddle with her boyfriend in a park The

attack was part of a police campaign called “Operation Romeo.” The campaign wanted to stamp out kissing in public Women’s groups and students are

protesting in Meerat and Delhi The protestors want an immediate end to attacks

on young lovers

The couple disappeared after their faces were revealed on television The

sweethearts have suddenly become heroes Indian people are both shocked at

the beating and concerned about the safety of the couple An angry Meerat resident said: “Is falling in love wrong? Why are police slapping people in love?”
