ROCAMORA ARQUITECTURA + AMO ARCHITECTURAL OFFICE
In “Alice in Wonderland”, Lewis Carrol, take us back to the duality of the adult-child world and its opposite feelings:
imagination-reality, game-work, fun-responsability, etc… The nursery school change into Alice’s world, where
everything are feelings, experiences, scale games, color, everything perceived through the innocent kids eyes
The building is conceived as a continuum space built by pieces, this pieces are placed in a way that the whole space is
divided This way the architects wanted to create a transversal relationship between the two worlds, interior and
exterior, enhancing the ambiguity between them, from where everything is a game untill where the education is
required, they can enjoy happily all day long
The school entrance, a roofed open space, not only introduce the visitor into the building but glimpse how the building
is going to be, so as it was a game the children go inside the nursery school, establishing at the same time a clear
difference between public and private space The skin of the building is a continuous crease that solves questions as
orientation, lighting and air circulation, the covered exterior spaces turn into a new extension Under the big roof, we
find all the pieces that conforms the space, the lighting and the air are solved by a mixture of flats which we find
throughout the building The children, in the aim of activating the visual sensations, go through the different
interior-exterior areas with height variations This sking is completed with a big courtyard common to all classrooms and works
as a playground area that interacts with the rest of the topographical land of the plot
Outwardly the classrooms are associated to the big garden that makes up the remainder of the plot showed as a signed of
how this kind of extention, shleterd from the sun and the rain across the covered porch. Therefore, the building, is
perceived from the surroundings as a big floating roof under which a whole word of colours and textures are shown
inviting the children to dive into a entertaining world

OFFICE AT Co., Ltd
PROGRAM: The L71 house is a single family house located on the northeastern side of Bangkok, Thailand The site
for the house is a long and narrow shape site All of the house programs such as 4 bedrooms, dining room, and family
room are place along the site to face north direction Since the owners have some parties occasionally, the public
areas, such as living room and parking, are in the front of the house, and the private areas are in the back of the house
along with a swimming pool
EXTEND: The living room mass was extended to create private space for the swimming pool and the second floor
mass was extended to create shading for the swimming pool and terrace
SPLIT: If the house is designed as one big mass it will block ventilation and natural light, so in this house each room
is spitted to maximize ventilation and natural light
INSERT: Since the masses are splitted, it creates some semi outdoor space to interlock indoor and outdoor space
Varieties of natural materials including water, grass and wood are inserted into each space
COVER: The roof of the main house is double-roof to cover the house from weather The lower roof is reinforced
concrete slab, and the upper roof is metal sheet roof A space between the two layers of roof acts as an air buffer,
natural ventilation and allows for easy maintenance
MATERIALS: Main material of this house is painted plastered brick wall and tint glass Where the masses are
splitted, the material of the splitted masses is wood

Mandaworks, in collaboration with Hosper Sweden, has recently been awarded first prize in the international architectural competition for a new mixed-use urban
development on the former horse race track, Vaasan Raviradan The jury unanimously appointed Mandaworks proposal, ”Inside - Outside,” as the contest winner out
of the 63 submitted proposals Utilizing the site’s location on the southern edge of Vaasa’s city center, the proposal’s starting point is the extension of Carl Axel
Setterberg 1860 city plan into the site Through the extension of the grid, the new development links to the surrounding urban life and forms a robust framework for
development The grid is then further developed by establishing a hierarchy of public spaces, pedestrian diagonal connections, and an activated green structure
MASTERPLAN FOR VAASAN RAVIRADAN, VAASA (FI)
This tissue of passages and places shape the area’s skeleton into a robust structure that generates a diversity of plot types This variety invites a mix of building
typologies and public spaces to be developed within the neighborhood Larger plots along the main streets bring commerce and apartments, while the smaller,
narrower plots support an array of housing typologies The mix contributes to the socio-economic diversity and the plan’s flexibility helps Vaasa to grow and adapt
in a coherent way
Project Statement
Grown out of an ambition to create a modern town, Carl Axel Setterberg’s 1860’s plan utilized a simple grid to achieve connectivity, hierarchy & diversity The
power of Setterberg’s grid has eroded as the city has expanded Today, modern infrastructure and large complexes have cutoff the city center’s grid from the
surrounding neighborhoods Our proposal Inside-Outside looks to build from Setterberg’s grid to create a contemporary framework that connects the site to its
context, sponsors diversity within the block, and takes on the 21st century’s challenge for holistic sustainability
Our proposal is connected to the southern edge of the city center by extending the city’s historic grid into the site The grid’s dimensions are formed from
Setterberg’s plan, then adapted to fit the local context and maximize connectivity The smart grid adapts to connect to the city center via Klemetinkatu, the waterfront
via existing bicycle connections, and the green spine to the east of the site via the strengthening of the existing forest The extended street network is developed
around a street hierarchy that organizes public transport and car traffic to prioritize safe pedestrian movement The main street, Klemetinkatu, links the neighborhood to the city center and is a place where pedestrians, commerce, and vehicles mix to create a vibrant street life Rantamanntie is modified to integrate parking for the sporting events and create a qualitative environment for a mix of functions And, local streets are defined by their green
character while the alleyways organize parking access and services
Diagonal bicycle and pedestrian paths cut through the blocks to provide shortcuts that connect the site to the existing recreational paths The proposed bicycle network takes advantage of the 3 existing underpasses to link the site
to the water, to connect to the adjacent sport facilities, and to bind together the site’s key public spaces
Collectively, the urban structure creates a series of urban block’s that create a unique town character and allow for flexibility and diversity to emerge Using the grid framework & diagonal cuts, a variety of plot sizes bring
possibilities for architectural diversity and for a range of actors to take part in the development process Bigger plots along the main streets allow for commerce and apartments, while smaller, narrow plots allow for a variety ofhousing typologies & a socio-economic diversity to emerge
The strong structure of the grid also brings possibilities to extend the grid into the context as future scenarios emerge and the city center grows south In the long term perspective, the grid would emerge as a strong building blockfor potential transformations of the surrounding sport complexes and valtatie 3 (the highway) In these future scenarios the grid would form an extendable structure, a connective urban tissue, and a flexible platform for

BCQ arquitectura barcelona
The main decision has been to construct the new building under the old existing garden and not to occupy a part of this space The motto
with which the project was presented in the ideas competition was “Garden of Light” These two words sum up the two ideas of the
project: maintaining and improving the existing garden, while at the same time providing joyful and well lit spaces
The library inserts under the garden of Vil•la Florida under the shade of its trees Inside, a landscape in itself, articulated and changing,
where each use and each user find their place It is a personalized and unique space
The building will be primarily connected to Sant Gervasi de Cassoles Street The unevenness between the garden and Sant Gervasi Street
naturally provides access to the new facilities On the other hand, the gardened roof will be on the same level as the old garden, so that the
construction of the new facility will mean the restoration of the civic center garden at its maximum dimension, where Vil•la Florida is the
building dominating the complex
The building is shaped by “light and silence patios” and “books and knowledge patios” The first, surrounded by glass, light and ventilate
the interior while isolating the library from the street The second, solid prisms filled with books, are part of the supporting structure of the
library
Among the courtyards and the volumes, indoor reading and work spaces are articulated Areas that should be small, seeking to provide a
comfortable feeling of domesticity to their users
The interior is solved easily with little textures; ceiling, floor, furniture and walls are white in general, while the face that hide concrete
retaining walls and structures of the building are covered with clay tiles This porous material, sound absorbent and warm, reminds us that
it is a half-buried building carved into the earth
To link the library with the upper garden area two volumes stand out One is a supported space of the library with direct access from the hall, located in a privileged spot The other is an entry of skylight
to the children’s area
The existing garden extends through the roof of the new library to the street of Sant Gervasi de Cassoles, where is planned a new access point to the gardens (next to the entrance to the hall of the
library) The old garden’s original trees have been replanted on the roof of the new library

The Binhai Eco City Master Plan is the result of a unique collaboration between the Chinese and Singaporean
governments The project was conceived as a case study for a completely green development, emphasizing the use of
renewable energy and the direct integration of natural surroundings into the built environment
The project consists of a new Central Business District (CBD) as well as five new cultural buildings with programs
ranging from exhibition spaces to libraries and dedicated educational space to sports facilities Where the CBD will
provide valuable new office space and create a bustling new city center, the cultural buildings will become the
educational heart of the plan
Both the CBD and the central cultural buildings are all designed to minimize energy use, and all incorporate ideas of
passive building design, utilizing solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling to achieve near zero impact
structures
The entire master plan sits on a raised plateau, allocating traffic and service to a lower level, establishing the new Eco
City Master Plan as a green pedestrian oasis within the larger development of the new Binhai area The overall plan
integrates and merges the cultural belt towards the water with the new CBD, drawing green areas towards the plan’s
center
“ The proposed ‘finger plan’ mimics an open, outstretched, hand, creating an environment that directly integrates
nature and living This design allows the green areas to slide in-between each finger, inviting direct interaction
throughout the day and nightand creates five islands that house the cultural buildings The direct access to the green
surroundings makes the Eco City Master Plan distinctive and affords its future inhabitants a vibrant and healthy place
to live, work and play.”
