Period 73: LESSON 1 : READING

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

1 Knowledge:

- Understand more specific information about musicsuch as: The types of music, the roles of music in our lives

- Know some vocabulary items related to music

2 Skills:

- Guess the meaning of the words based on context

- Scan for specific information of the passage in the textbook to answer the questions

- Improve other related skills

3 Attitude:

- Ss are trained to work effectively, enthusiastically participate in the classroom activities Therefore, they aremore motivated, love music and English

II TEACHING AIDS: Textbook, black board,computer, projector, chalk III TEACHING METHODS: Pair-work, group - work, presentation,

discussion, elicition, explaination

IV ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:

- Ss may not know many vocabulary items related to music, so teacher should

be ready to introduce some

“HAPPY MUSICAL NOTES” to guess the types of music by listening

to some pieces of music on the slide

- Check and give feedback

-Ask Ss to open the book at page 124

-Ask Ss to look at the three pictures and guess the types of music

A Matching(3 mins)

- Ask Ss to work in pairs to match each type of music with its

description

- Call some Ss to give the answers orally

-Check and give feedback

-Encourage Ss to provide some more types of music

B.Vocabulary:(6mins)

- Listen and answer

* Possible answers:

passage

- Provide Ss some new words:

1 Integral (n): Necessary/ important

2 Funeral (n): Ceremony for someone who has died

3 Solemn ( adj): Humorless, formal

4 Lull (v):>< wake somebody up

5 Sense (n): Physical faculty

- Read each word 2 times

- Ask Ss to repeat it

- Ask some Ss to read all the words aloud in front of the class

- Listen and help Ss to read the words correctly

- Write down these words into their notebooks

Task 1: Gap filling (10mins)

- Ask Ss to read the passage quickly and stop at the lines that contain these words in the box

- Provide Ss some strategies to do task 1 and encourage them try to guess the meanings of the words in the context of the reading

- Ask Ss to work in pairs and use the words/ phrases in the box to complete the sentences in 3 minutes

- Call Ss to read and explain their answers aloud in front of the class

- Check and give feedback

Task 2: Answering questions

(10mins)

- Ask Ss to read the five questions

and the passage again more carefully

- Ask Ss to underline the information

in the passage that helps them to

findthe correct answers

- Divide the class into two big groups

to play game :

“LUCKY MUSICAL NOTE”

- Introduce the rule of the game

+ There are 6 musical notes

containing 5 questions and one lucky

note

+ Ss have to work in group to answer

the questions With each correct

question, Ss can get 1 point And then

they don’t have to answer the

question if they get the lucky note

+ If the group cannot answer or the

answer is incorrect, another group

*Possible answers:

- Read the questions and the passage again

4.Consolidation: (2mins)

- Ask Ss to mention the roles of music in people’s lives and type of music

5 Homework: (1min)

- Learn by heart all of the new words and do the extra exercise

-Collect some songs of different type of music and share with your friends to

listen

-Prepare for the next lesson
