Questions
1 What type of fi le do you need to have open to create a 3D object?
2 What steps can you take to reposition a texture on a 3D object?
3 What fi le formats can you export your 3D layer to and still maintain the 3D Object?
Answers
1 You do not need to have any particular fi le type open in order to create a 3D object
If it opens in Photoshop, and you are in RGB mode, it will work.
2 To reposition a texture on a 3D object, follow these steps:
a Double-click on the 3D layer; the 3D panel appears.
b In the 3D panel, choose the layer name, Label or Cap, that the texture is applied to.
c Click on the Edit the Diff use Texture button to the right of Diff use, and choose

What you’ll learn
in this lesson:
New 64-bit version
• Streamlined workspace
• New adjustments panel
• Using the masks panel
• New 3D features
•
Adobe Photoshop CS4
New Features
In this section, you discover some of the new features of Photoshop
The features we cover are broad and include improvements that
aff ect print, web, 3D, and multimedia designers The features are
summarized in a way that you can quickly take advantage of
what’s new Don’t worry about comprehending all of them at this
point, many of these features, as well as other improvements are
incorporated in the lessons.
64-bit version
Many users have been waiting for this improvement with bated breath, and it is fi nally here
If you have the appropriate processor and operating system, you can take advantage of Adobe
Photoshop’s CS4 64-bit version The Photoshop CS4 64-bit version provides a wider data path,
so it speeds the processing time when sending large amounts of data to and from RAM (active
memory) to the processor.
This long-awaited build is the answer to the users who work with 1GB fi les or larger and need
to take advantage of the improved 64-bit memory allocation

The new and improved workspace includes panels and an Application bar.

New panels
Not only has the Photoshop team changed the reference to palettes to be panels (now
consistent with the rest of the suite) but they have also added some new panels to help you
perform your tasks better In this section, you will fi nd out about two of these panels, several
more are referenced throughout this book.
Adjustments panel
Photoshop CS4 takes non-destructive editing one step further with the addition of the
Adjustments panel The functions that are on the panel are not new, but certainly are easier to
fi nd Use the Adjustments panel to change a layer(s) to grayscale, add a tint of color, or correct
the color; with no destruction of the original pixels.
Adjustments are truly the future of digital imaging, and you can fi nd out how to take advantage
of them in Lesson 9, “Taking Layers to the Max.”
The new Adjustments panel helps you to create
non-destructive editing changes.
Trang 11Adding masks to layers has been a function that has been sorely underused by a large population
of Photoshop users, but help is on the way with the new Masks panel Simply make a selection using any selection tool, then click on the Add a mask button (pixel or vector) in the Masks panel Use the adjustment sliders to further refi ne the selection Find out how to use this panel
in Lesson 8, “Getting to Know Layers.”
Create and refi ne selections using the new Masks panel.
Improved cloning
Using the Clone Stamp tool has been the preferred tool for many digital artists, but the uncertainty of what is going to actually appear when you start painting can sometimes cause delays and errors New in Photoshop CS4, you now see a preview (in your cursor) before you start cloning The preview shows the pixel data and the size and softness of the brush, before you paint This is a big winner for all retouchers You can control the preview using the Clone Source panel, which is discussed in Lesson 6, “Painting and Retouching.”
Use the Clone Source panel to adjust your preview.

Improved Save for Web and Devices
The Save for Web and Devices feature has always been very helpful for web designers, but it is
even better in Photoshop CS4 You can now easily convert your color data, attach metadata, and
change animation settings right in the Save for Web and Devices dialog box You can fi nd out
how to use the improvements in this feature in Lesson 12, “Creating Images for Web and Video.”

New and very much improved 3D features
3D was introduced in CS3, but you could only scratch the surface with imported 3D fi les Now
in CS4 you can open, create and even export 3D fi les The average user can apply images, as textures, around cans, boxes, and more using the new 3D menu items, 3D tools, and 3D panel
Have fun experimenting with the 3D features in Lesson 13, “Introducing 3D.”
3D objects can be created, edited and exported from Photoshop CS4.
