I/ Relative clauses( revision):

Câu mệnh đề có 2 loại:

Loại 1: Mệnh đề quan hệ hạn định:để biết rõ người và vật được đề cập là

ai, cái gì…Nếu là người thì dùng “WHO”, vật thì dùng “WHICH”

Loại 2: mệnh đề không hạn định:

- Danh từ chỉ người và vật được nêu ra rõ ràng, xác định

- Trước và sau mệnh đề phải có dấu phẩy.

- Mệnh đề này chỉ đưa thêm thông tin để làm rõ thêm cho danh từ nó

cần bổ nghĩa.

- Nếu không có mệnh đề này chúng ta vẫn hiểu được nghĩa của câu Example: The woman is very friendly She lives next door.

 The woman who lives next door is very friendly

II/ Omision of relative pronouns

- Who, whom, which dùng thay thế danh từ đứng trước nó

và làm chủ ngữ trong câu

Ex: The boy who broke my window is your son.

The table which I have just bought costs much.

- Khi Who, which, that được dùng để thay thế cho tân ngữ

trong câu mệnh đề xác định, ta có thể bỏ who, whom,… mà

ý nghĩa của câu không thay đổi.

Ex: The book which I bought yesterday is very interesting = The book I bought yesterday is very interesting.

- That cũng có thể bỏ đi trong câu mệnh đề tính ngữ xác

định khi câu đó bắt đầu bằng There is/ There was,…

Ex: I’d like to meet the students ( that) there is in my list.
