How do I save, export, or burn

specific tracks from my song?

You can click the Mute or Solo buttons to

select the tracks to be saved.

1 Click the Mute button to turn off a track

and not have it used ( changes

to )

2 Click the Solo button to turn off

every track except the selected one

( changes to )

3 Save your project You can save it to

iTunes, export it to a file, or burn it to a CD

CREATE A PODCAST PROJECT

1 Click File and then click New.

2 In the GarageBand window, click New

Project.

3 Click Podcast.

4 Click Choose.

5 In the New Project from Template dialog, type

a name for the project

How do I add music jingles to my podcast?

You can add jingles, or short snippets of music, to give your podcast a professional sound.

1 Click to open the loop browser

2 Click to show loops for

podcasts

3 Click the Jingles category

4 Click a keyword

● GarageBand displays the loops

5 Click and drag a loop to the Jingles

track of the podcast

along with your other podcast

You can insert an image from the media browser to include representative artwork.

1 Click Podcast Track.

2 Click to show the media browser

How do I add a movie to a podcast?

You have the option of adding movie clips to your podcasts instead of still

artwork You can click Track and then Show Movie Track

to display a track for adding movies You can open the

media browser and then click Movies to access

content to add to the track.

How can I export a podcast

as a file?

You can export a podcast as

a file to view on your

computer, share with

others, or publish on the

Web Click Share and then

Export Podcast to Disk

GarageBand lets you select a

compression setting and audio setting, and then

where to save the file on your computer.

GarageBand processes the

podcast and iWeb opens

7 Select the page where you want

the podcast to appear

You can add a podcast to a

podcast page or blog page on any

of your iWeb sites

8 Click OK.

iWeb adds the podcast to the Web

page

9 Click the play button to preview

the podcast on the page

Lesson Chapters

A GarageBand lesson is divided into chapters In Learn chapters, instructors explain musical concepts and demonstrate how to play instruments In Play chapters, you can play along with songs to practice what you have learned.

Lesson Video

Lessons include videos of instructors playing instruments The videos are shot at multiple angles to give you different views of the instrument you are learning Musical notation and instrument graphics below the video are highlighted to show the notes, keys, and strings being played.

Notation

The notation area shows the notes of the song being played in the lesson You can configure the notation in the settings to show chords, different piano hands, tablature, and more See “Customize the Lesson Window” to learn about configuring the notation.

Instrument

The instrument area shows a representation of the instrument being played It shows a piano keyboard for piano lessons and a guitar neck with strings for guitar lessons Keys, strings, and frets are highlighted as different notes are played in the song See “Customize the Lesson Window” to learn about viewing or hiding the

instrument graphics.

Editing Your Lesson

You can click Open in Garage Band to open the lesson music, including any recordings you have made, in the

GarageBand editor.

GarageBand lessons teach you how to play a

piano or guitar through instructional videos

and songs you can play along with Musical

notation, instrument graphics, a song timeline,

and other features help you learn to play the

instrument and understand musical concepts

Before starting a GarageBand lesson,

familiarize yourself with the lesson workspace.

Learning to Play Music

Controls

You can use the main controls to play the lesson, record yourself playing along with the lesson, and repeat a part of a song.

Tempo

The lesson workspace includes a metronome that plays along with the song to help you keep time The bottom

of the metronome shows the tempo of the song You can slow down a lesson song to make it easier to follow See “Take a Piano Lesson” or “Take a Guitar Lesson” for details.

Timeline

The lesson workspace has a timeline that shows the parts that make up a lesson A playhead moves along the timeline to show what part is currently being played If you record yourself playing a lesson, the recording shows

up as a colored bar on the timeline.

You can take a piano lesson in GarageBand to learn

the basics of using the instrument Lessons involve

instructional video and songs that you can play

along with An on-screen keyboard shows you what

notes to play on your connected keyboard To play

along with the piano lessons, you must attach a USB

or MIDI keyboard to your computer.
