The Great-Grandmother of All Shortcut Tables
Saddam Hussein has been an unpopular fellow for some time now, but you have to
give him credit for that “mother of all battles” thing English isn’t even the guy’s
first language, yet he added a wonderful catch phrase to it I’m sure we’ll be joking
about the mothers of all this and that for years to come That Saddam, what a sense
of humor.
Trang 2By the way, don’t press Shift just because a key combination involves a character that normally requires the Shift key Just press the key with the shortcut character on it For example, the shortcut for the Zoom In command is Ctrl+plus (+) Technically, + is the Shifted version of equal (=), so a literal person might think you have to press Ctrl+Shift+= But the literal person would be wrong The plus sign is used because it implies zooming while the equal sign does not So when you see Ctrl+plus (+), just press Ctrl+=.
Naturally, a shortcut won’t make much sense if you aren’t familiar with the feature
it facilitates I explain both specific features and their shortcuts in context in other chapters The intent of the table is to serve as a reference you can revisit as your knowledge of Photoshop grows The more you learn, the more useful the table becomes.
Many of Photoshop’s keyboard shortcuts involve both the Ctrl and Alt keys Ctrl+ Alt+O invokes the Open As command, Ctrl+Alt+Z undoes an operation from the History palette Unfortunately, this isn’t entirely kosher with Microsoft Windows 95 (and later) likes to reserve Ctrl+Alt combinations to launch applications For exam- ple, let’s say you set Ctrl+Alt+Z to launch Nico Mak’s popular WinZip (In case you’re unclear how to do this, create a shortcut icon for WinZip Then right-click the shortcut icon, choose Properties, click the Shortcut tab, and enter Z into the Shortcut Key option box.) From this point on, Windows snags the keystrokes before Photoshop can react to it So rather than undoing an operation, Ctrl+Alt+Z launches WinZip The only way to avoid this conflict is to steer clear of the keys Photoshop uses — B, D, E, F, J, K, L, M, N, O, S, T, U, X, Z, plus, minus, semicolon, and zero through nine — when assigning file-launching shortcuts.
