ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The past 4 months have been a memorable process, a new experience for me | had the opportunity to experience new things in directly teaching English and gained unforgettable memories I have received a lot of help, guidance and sharing from teachers of the maritime university in general, lecturers of the foreign language department in particular and also colleagues and instructors at Tri Tue Viet English Center during my internship

Firstly, I want to send my sincere thanks to the maritime university for creating the best conditions for all of us to have a valuable internship course to be able to fully explore our potential for future plans and intentions I have been able to apply a lot

of the knowledge I learned at university to my work at the Center Next, | want to send my earnest thanks to Tri Tue Viet English Centre for creating the most favorable conditions for me to do my dream job and successfully complete the internship course

Secondly, I highly thank Mr Do Huu Truong, the committed instructor overseeing our internship course for his guidance, understanding, and patience in helping us get over challenges throughout our internship period This difficult internship course would have been a challenging task for me without the help of Mr Truong and other teachers

Lastly, 1 would like to send my most sincere gratitude to Ms Hanh, my instructor and the Tr Tue Viet English Center for all of their guidance and sharing of invaluable experiences throughout my four months of employment here Not only that, she was also throughout my internship at the centre Furthermore, thank you to

my dear colleagues who always helped, gave me suggestions and corrected my mistakes throughout my internship Now, after 4 months of internship, I have not only been able to complete a lesson plan, a teaching assistantship or a teaching session, but also learned classroom organization and management skills

1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purposes of the internship

All students should keep in mind that the primary goal of any internship 1s to apply the theory and information they have studied in college to actual work Students who have a strong English proficiency, for instance, should utilize it to apply for positions as translators, English teachers, or teaching assistants

Besides, students majoring in English can not only cultivate more useful knowledge related to work but also learn new necessary skills to create a solid foundation for their future jobs through internship period Some skills that students can learn during internships include time management skills, communication skills, planning skills and problem-solving skills In addition to professional knowledge, these skills will be a stepping stone to help students build relationships at work and succeed in the future

Lastly, when actually entering a professional working environment, students will face tasks and challenges that they have never encountered before in college, and this is also a test for them to self-assess their own abilities as well as overcome existing problems

1.2 Significance of the internship

Before graduating from university, students of any major have to undergo one or several internships They need to treat this internship seriously because it will have

a significant influence on their future careers

During the internship period, students have the opportunity to apply university theories into practice as well as hone their soft skills, which directly affect their future success or failure

Another internship target 1s for students to directly experience working in a professional environment, get acquainted with real situations and know how to handle them smoothly In addition to interning at an organization, company or center for a short period of time, students can be accepted as official employees, work and stay there for a long time

° Establishment

The center has a team of experienced teachers with educational certificates in English, under the management of executive director Ms Hanh Tri Tue Viet English Center, which began operating on July 19, 2019, is still asserting itself by providing students with good quality English courses with reasonable tuition fees The center receives the trust of many parents who send their children to study Therefore, Tri Tue Viet is still asserting its position in the English teaching market even though it has only existed for 5 years

2.2 Functions and Business Activities

The goal of Tri Tue Viet English Center 1s to offer affordable, high-quality English mstruction to students at every level, from elementary school to high school, in a welcoming setting Students may easily study and practice speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar in this setting Vietnamese teachers will instruct students in reading, writing, and grammar, while international instructors from various nations will oversee speaking and listening lessons with the help of a teaching assistant Foreign teachers switch up their sessions every six months, which gives the students opportunity to practice understanding and listening to English spoken with a variety of accents Teachers may adequately help pupils in a class of 10 to 15 when there are a moderate number of students, and vice versa Parents give the center a lot of attention and trust to send their kids to study because

of the aforementioned reasons

During its five years in business, Tri Viet has also had its share of highs and lows One may argue that the center's strength is its constant effort to provide students high-quality courses at affordable tuition costs, along with a staff of knowledgeable and dedicated instructors who are always willing to assist students In addition, the center also organizes extracurricular activities and festivals for students Tn Tue Viet Center prioritizes quality over quantity 1n its instruction because it recognizes the needs and goals of parents for their children As a result, it avoids aggressive marketing and media manipulation in favor of a more quality-focused curriculum There could not be as many pupils as at other centers because the majority come to

learn because their parents introduce them to one another In pursuit of that shared objective, | make every effort to make a meaningful contribution to the center's growth by providing insightful feedback on the lectures | attend and the students I engage with during my internship

¢ Fuction:

- Prepare documents and tools for foreign teachers before entering class

students! assignments, record attendance, and remind pupils of each lesson

- After each class, remind the class group about homework and send the vocabulary video link to their parents

- Managing and evaluating the learning progress and competencies of students

- Directly teaching classes at the Center

I work as a teaching assistant for classes of 4" and 5" graders with foreign teachers Every Thursday and Friday, | will have a teaching shift from 6 to 7:30 p.m Classes here usually starts at 6 p.m, but I usually arrive 25 minutes earlier than the class time to check the room, tables and prepare equipment and worksheets The student s will learn from the book Family and Friends 2 I will pick up and lead students from the reception desk to the classroom 10 minutes before class start During the class, I take attendance of students, guide and manage the class as well as assist foreign teachers in assigning tasks or assignments At the end of the session, I will take the students downstairs and wait for their parents to pick them up, then I return to classroom to clean up and switch off the light

On Mondays and Tuesdays, I will teach classes for 2nd and 3rd graders from 6:00

to 7:30 p.m They learn simple vocabulary in the book Oxford Phonics World 2 My task before each class is to make a lesson plan and submit it to my instructor, Ms Hanh, and she will also observe while I teach in class After each time, I will receive comments and suggestions for better lectures

During my time as a teaching assistant, 1 had the opportunity to learn necessary skills such as communication skills, especially with students, time management skills in each activity in the lesson and practise to use some tools such as PowerPoint presentations, Bluetooth speakers and TVs

2.4, Organization evaluation

1 can personally attest that this is among the locations with the most amiable work environments after completing a four-month internship at Tri Viet English Center Everyone, including directors, instructors, and teaching assistants, 1s friendly and social with one another In addition, | get to work and interact with the majority of the center's instructors and teaching assistants because Ï am an intern, and they all treat me like family People are always closely connected to one another as a result When someone makes a mistake or exhibits inadequacies in their instruction or

supervision of students, everyone will really offer recommendations, counsel, or even direct remedies Here, I also learned many lessons that I had never even discussed before thanks to the end-of-month meetings between the center's staff At this time, people will make their own comments about their strengths and weaknesses, what they have done in the past month and what problems need to be overcome as well as receive advice and suggestions from others

To sum up, I'm a quiet, introverted person who doesn't often attempt new things However, since starting this job, my communication skills have really increased I

am able to interact with people more and be more open At work, Ms Hanh is an enthusiastic, careful and responsible person She is always willing to instruct and guide me meticulously Additionally, to the welcoming work atmosphere, I consider myself extremely fortunate to be an intern here due of the knowledgeable, approachable staff members

3 INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

3.1 Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

Tri Tue Viet English Center operates every evening of the week from 6:00 a.m to 9:15 p.m., but on Saturdays and Sundays, it operates all day A typical working day for me as a teaching assistant is that I will arrive at class 25 minutes early to check the equipment in the classroom, prepare the necessary documents and tools as required by foreign teachers Next, I will g0 down to the reception desk to welcome and lead students to class and take attendance During the first 30 minutes of class, I will check students’ homework, have them read the words they have learned and correct their pronunciation mistakes For the next 1 hour, I will support foreign teachers in managing, keeping classroom order and organizing activities After class ends, I will take the students down to the lobby and wait for their parents to pick them up, then I return to the classroom to check everything again before leaving I will post class reports and homework as well as video links of that day's lessons to the class group on zalo As a teacher, I will prepare lesson plans, tools and materials that I will use when teaching such as flashcards, worksheets and games before going to class When in class, 1 will also take students’ attendance, check their homework, and let them pronounce learned words After that, | teach a new lesson, organize activities and games related to the lesson for students to remember and practice, and then assign homework

When I started this job, I encountered many difficulties such as communicating with students, parents, class management and writing lesson plans, these are tasks I have never done before Because partly I am an introvert, and I rarely have to interact and communicate with many people in such a large environment But also fortunately
